June 30. 2018 The latest 1st Century Roman Fulham Gladius Sword. This is created by hand in my shop. The measurements and hilt style is historically accurate, however there are a few things my client desired to make this a "Tribute" sword in memory of a family member who passed away.
A closer look will reveal the hand carved Dove on an Olive Branch (Inspired) and the Olive Branch Laurel carved into the Pommel (Inspired.) Th Brass Guard Plate is inset into the Guard and customized/personalized with the Family Name Written in Latin.
The Guard and Pommel are hand carved from European Boxwood and the Grip is White Holly, darker to the clients desire. My client gave this sword a name... "The Mourning Dove." This is one of the last swords to be made under my old Trademark, before fully converting over to the new business trademark and the name "Rhema Creations LLC."
Just a little hint at how different a hilt can be with a little customization. The Dove and Olive Branch on the Guard and the Olive Branch Laurel on the Pommel are both "Inspired By" Roman artwork of the day found in Roman Paintings, Sculpture, Tombstones and Mosaics. However, these are not "Replicas" of actual archeological discoveries, they are historically accurate in Measurements, hilt style and materials.
The Blade almost looks like glass in these two pictures... Above and Below.
