Put 150 rounds of 180gr 10mm through this so far, some of it very hot, and it is an incredible handgun for a sub $1,000 1911. It’s got quite a few upgrades already (skeletonized trigger, commander hammer, fiber optic sight....etc) and for an out of the box trigger, it compares with a few $1,000+ Kimber’s I’ve handled. Recoil is on par with most 9mm 1911’s, and one of the best features to me...... 16+1 rounds of 10mm Justice! 😁 I’d highly recommend this to anyone who likes already upgraded handguns, and the reliability and accuracy of the 1911 platform!

Oh the only downer with this 1911 is that Rock Island only provides 1 magazine. On the upside I found someone who sells them for $36, so not too too bad.

Why not the one with the rail?

You don’t HAVE to buy it, but it is pretty awesome 😉 The only one with a rail I could get was one with a 6” barrel, and it was like $1,000. This one is more “classic 1911” which I kinda liked more.

I have a Ruger SR1911 in 10mm, it's also pretty nice with generally aftermarket features for $750. Nitrided barrel! I really hate the fat sight though, it's adjustable but it's so fat that even a slight movement would put you off course at 20+ yards. Not sure that the rear can be removed..

What do you mean by a "fat" sight?

Come on now, I’m sure it has a great personality! 😁

That didn't help. Does it mean the rear sight lets in too much light or not enough? Or what?

The front sight is a bit wide, the rear notch is also a bit wide. At long distances (25+ yd) just being slightly off center will move the shot a lot, and it's harder to align it reliably with so much space between rear notch and front sight.
The CT lasergrip I picked up for $100 makes much cleaner shots at longer ranges in low light, but it's only visible to around 50 feet in sunlight. What good is the target sight if I can't make a kill shot on a deer beyond 30 yards?
The trajectory within 30 yards is so flat I'm not even sure you'd need to adjust it at all. I'd rather have thinner neon sight... Even changing between underpowered S&B, and various Underwood ammo, the vertical poi is pretty much the same to me..
Then again, I don't think I've used many guns that had the thinner sights I like. My Encore's iron has a notch about the same size as the 1911.

At a glance I don't think those would fit the mounting slot..would definitely prefer tritium one. the 10mm has different mount than the other sr1911s, and I thought I saw a post somewhere saying the rear isn't removable, maybe it was a ruger product page review idk

dalamar- the fiber optic sights are custom made for the SR1911 so maybe “in hand” they look more accurate?? The link to Amazon I got for the tritium night sights was from an article/review on the SR1911 specifically. The only caveat is that you have to pick the right size on Amazon’s page (1911—Cut .260 Front / .450 Rear (1911 5") or one of the other 3 options. According to the article, the link I posted is the right set. Here’s where I found it: www.reloaderaddict.com/best-ruger-sr1911-sights-sr-1911-adjustable-sights-review/P.S is the name dalamar short for “Dalamar the Dark” by any chance? I read that name in an OLD Wizards of the Coast series of books, that’s why I’m asking.

Oh so Dalamar the Dark Elf, awesome!! I loved those Dragonlance books years ago. I actually had a giant grey rat for a pet in my teenage years, and I named him Raistlin!

What do you think about the Gen4 Glock 10mm?

My opinion of all Glock’s remains the same, because despite the generation, the differences are pretty slight. Glock’s are super dependable (though there are stories of some that still fail) and easily customizable, but aside from being utilitarian I just don’t get as excited owning them like I do with most of my other guns. Know what I mean? I still enjoy my G32 and the Polymer80 G19 I put together, but again, I just don’t enjoy them as much. My Glock 20 is Gen 3, so I absolutely HAD to install a Ghost 3.5lb Connector to make the trigger “tolerable,” but I’m sure the Gen 4 is an easier model to shoot all around.

I have the .357 Glock and agree that it is the ugly sister to all my other pistols. Was exploring the 10mm platforms that are not too expensive and Glock kept coming up as an option for a good and reliable high capacity one. I also looked at your gun which is nice and within a hundred or so of the Glock price. I like the looks of the Rock Island model.
The Rock Island guns are made in the Philippines. They seem to have good reviews for the most part. Have never fired a 10mm before but am intrigued by the round.

Well our esteemed Croccifixo hails from the same land, and he also has several that he says run very reliably. The 10mm is basically the .40’s bigger step-brother, with ballistics very similar to the 41 magnum. You can get some hot 10mm rounds that are manageable enough in a Glock 20, or a Glock 40 which has a 5” barrel, but in this all stell 1911 it’s like shooting 9mm! I started out with a Glock 29, but 10mm can be a little snappy in such a small gun. It just depends what you need it for.

Well - you guys convinced me. Have a Rock Island Armory 52009 Ultra FS HC Pistol 10mm 5in 16rd Black on layaway from one of the sites I use. Already have another magazine ordered from Cheaper Than Dirt....
Looks like another sword is going up for sale.
