So I am not a gun guy per say, but I like history (you know like swords) and I do really like the turn of the century time period (late 1800's into the 1900's) and for what ever reason I REALLY like top-break revolvers. I recently got an H and R .32 antique that is cool, probably will never fire it. Its a really neat little pocket pistol but its super small. I like it, but want something bigger and modern and something I could take to the range and not worry too much that b/c its so old its going to blow up in my face. I want this piece in the 5" barrel (link below) Its Uberti made but this company seems to be a dealer of various modern makes of older weapons including Uberti. Its pricey. Being a newbie and all was hoping for some input from those who are more in the know. I want it essentially for collecting purposes. Thanks www.taylorsfirearms.com/hand-guns/cartridge-revolvers/schofield-revolvers/new-model-no-3-frontier.html

I have one on lay-away with Buds Gun Shop. Should have it paid off very soon. Cheaper than buying from the manufacturer.
Uberti and Pietta in Italy make almost all of these historical old West type revolvers. I usually buy Cimarron products as they seem to have better QC but all their products are made by both companies. They have input on designs as well. Taylor's imports Uberti products. I like Pietta better.

Bryan, now that I have a gun collection of old and new ones, you should make a trip one day to check them all out. Better than just looking at pictures. Not sure if you have a large volume gun store with a large inventory where you live.

Thanks Bill! Yeah just getting into it a bit.. Don't think there is Store around here.. About 1.5 hours is a Cabela's with a high end collectable room. I took my kid about 7 years ago but he wanted to see all the stuffed deer and what not, might have to go back and poke around. Thanks for the info and invite!

Just remember that any break top will be weaker than any solid frame revolver. If you get one in, say, .45 Colt, be sure to keep the loads down to light cowboy loads. Using holy black is even better. I'd eventually like to get a brace in .44 Russian...

Also make sure you if you shoot these replicas to load 5 instead of 6 and rest the hammer on the empty chamber. Normally you load one, skip the next one and load the rest. Most of these replicas do not have a safety bar and the hammer firing pin will rest against a round and could discharge.
