Hello, I am new to this forum and the reason why I registered is that I have movie replica that I want to open but am unsure how. Item in question is a replica of Legolas fighting knives from Lord of the Rings, I want to open the handle to see if the blade is half tang or rat tail and to secure it since one of them is a little bit lose. It is not an official replica it is like one from eBay, I found a few sellers that told me that pommel is glued in but I am not sure how to get it off,do I just rip it off, do I heat it, do I inject something to loosen the glue, I am not sure as I am not sure what type of glue it is? The replica was a gift and I really want to fix the blade in place on the one that is not a tight fit, just not sure how to approach it. Thank you for any help Attachments:

Before you take it apart, i will usually recommend applying some loctite 290 between the blade and hilt and allowing it to wick into the hilt. This might solve the problem for you

Are the grips wood or plastic? Do they sound hollow when tapped? For that matter, do the blades ring when tapped, or just sort of clack and/or rattle? What about the pommels? You can often find out quite a lot about a weapon's construction just by tapping different parts sharply with a fingernail and listening to the sound... That said, I think leviathansteak's suggestion will probably end up being the best way to start, regardless. Loctite is typically a good brand, but speaking more generally, you'll want a glue that flows easily enough but hardens solid and doesn't shrink when it dries (there are some that actually expand, which can be very handy, but you have to be careful with those). Oh, and if the grips are plastic, you'll also want to make sure the glue can bond but not melt it.
