That's pretty respectable for a first try on such a thick target!
I hear it's a good sword for this, too. Seen a lot of them in cutting competitions.

What's interesting to me is we tried 4 swords in total on the same targets.
Windlass xiv 1860 cutlass windlass Cold steel h&h Windlass Khyber knife (the sharpest of all 4)
Bear In mind our skill level is consistent throughout we all had far superior results with the cs h&h.
To the point we labelled it the cheat sword as it was too easy.
What I am wondering is why it did so much better?
Initially I would say the edge but the windlass Khyber was sharper ( though maybe a poorer edge geometry overall?)
Is it the make, the type of sword or what?
I have since resharpened all except the cs h&h. The xiv in particular will shave the hair off my leg now.

Probably a combination of its length and balance giving more momentum in a cut, and the two-handed grip allowing better control and leverage.

I have a gen2 Lucerne that couldn't even cut bottles.
I may re sharpen & test one day.
Also a 1796 CS Light cav sabre. I really dislike this sword handling wise. However it is meant to be a good cutter but I have always struggled. I think I struggle to get it up to speed.
My next tatami session is going to be with a collection of shorties.
Windlass qama Windlass lakonia 2 different Tora kukris A golok British army issue machete.
Will either take the cs h&h to finish off the mats or maybe a windlass h&h falchion.
So you think the set up works with the linked YouTube playlist?
It seems easier than embedding all the separate vids.
I don't know how much value is in posting these poor technique/failed cuts. However I still feel it could be useful.
Next time I will try more photos of how deep each sword cuts. If they fail that is.

You could also just take one long video of the event. Might be easier than uploading multiple small files and creating a playlist.
You may also find looking at the technique for the weapon your using might help with cutting. Watching the cutlass playlist it seems like the strikes would benefit from drawing the blade and using the wrist more for instance.
