Hey everyone, I'm kinda new here. Been a lurker for a while, reading reviews, enjoying the content the community here brings! Several weeks ago I noticed that CS puts out some products just begging to be modified. After looking around and being impressed with the work some folks have done, I decided to try my hand at it. I plan to modify every hawk CS makes save for the trench (or anything with a poly handle), and then move on to the polearms, specifically the Sergeant's Halberd, and for sure some of the spears. Anyhow, without further ado, my runic "Goodbye" hawk! So, I: Refinished both the handle and the head, fitting the head to the handle properly and disposing of the set screw - as the screw can effect the structural integrity of the handle. Added a patina to the head and a finish and sealer to the handle to achieve an aged look. Added runes to the handle by hand, they read - "Goodbye" in Elder Futhark on both sides. Added grooves and designs, by hand, to the lower part of the handle to provide a better grip, both sides. Wrapped the handle in suede cord. Wrapped the top of the handle and head in suede cord. I meant this mostly for show. As such, I did not sharpen it, but who knows? Maybe the urge to chop will be too great haha.

Thanks, I had to freehand the darn things because I don't have any carbon paper handy. I'm glad they turned out mostly straight!
Haha thanks!

CS 'hawk's beg to be modified. I've bought, modded, and re-sold so many, I've lost count. Such a simple and rewarding weekend project that turns a lump of coal into a polished diamond.

Aw heck yeah, that spike hawk looks great! About how much of a profit do you make when you sell one?

Wow that looks awesome. Far far superior to the original. I've been wanting to do a project like this for a while. Can I ask how did you do the runes on the side? And how did you properly fix the head? Thanks.

I bet they would have been done free hand back in the day as well. Now if only cold steel would stop with the horrid black paint on all their tomahawks...

Thanks I did the runes with a flex shaft attached to a rotary tool. Basically I drew the runes in pencil, then drew them with the tool. I sanded the haft where Cold Steel had forced it on and checked it with the head a few times, giving it a good pressure fit. It smacked the top end on a hard surface a few times, and tapped the head a few times lightly with a hammer, then wrapped it with the cord. It's pretty solid! Yeah the paint is probably my least favorite thing to have to deal with. I'm ultra paranoid of getting the stripper on anything besides the head and pan I put them in, stuff is nasty!

Yours is prettier than CS's version. And that goes for the metal, however I'll leave the paint in place for practicality reasons, I hate rust and preventing it. I'll let that ugly paint do the work.

I mounted one on a full length canted modern axe haft once--loved the result. Wicked fast in the hand with excellent reach.

I see the CS Viking hand-axe (31") in my near future, and doing some extreme mods to it. May yet disassemble my CS Viking axe (the BIG one... ) and do a little voodoo on it also. Love that brute.

It's as good as mine, plus couple or three more goodies I have my eye on. Already got a CS machete set coming. Katana, Wak, and Tanto. Really weird for me...but at the prices seen online, ...what the hell. Happy pay-day to me.
