Now make a full size apoc sabre I also like the broadsword. An apocalypse baskethilt?!?!?! That could be a fun project. Been considering the apoc cutlass as of late. Anyone got one?

Been considering the apoc cutlass as of late. Anyone got one? I do. "Meh." Nothing terrible about it, ok price, but meh. Wish a little I would've held out for the broadsword or gladius I guess, not that I'm jonesing for those all that bad either. Frankly, I just wanted one as an Atrim-designed production sword representative, but I've never been that impressed in the least by any of the "AT" stuff, and I've owned about a dozen now from various companies. Overbuilt Norwich falchion that was OK but no one who adores should ever then rip on Windlass's Thorpe; underbuilt practical arming sword, in my opinion. The Kingston model issues. I know some people adore the zombie slayers, but those too I'd only consider OK. As far as I'm concerned the Hanwei-Tinker partnership's gone way better at giving budget examples of the original maker than any partnership Trim has gone with. The cutlass I guess is a way to have an "AT" in the collection at the cheap end, and like I said nothing's terrible about it, so I wouldn't regret the purchase either, but that's the best I can say.

Hm. Most appealing factor to me was it's blade shape but if it's real redeeming factor is in its maker design I might hold off on it. Although, what do you think about it as a hunting sword? I think mounted on a pretty stag grip it might be cool.

I have the cutlass. I like it, it's a fun little cutter. No issues with it although I can see how it wouldn't be to everyone's taste. Was there anything in particular you wanted to know about it? Could be a nice hunting sword, the handle slabs should swap out easily enough, though I haven't tried taking them off. It's on the list of projects to do when I find some wood that would look nice on it.

For me the A.P.O.C.s are all too short. The ideas behind aren't bad, and I see the "tactical" reason for them being shorter. But Hanwei with Tinker/Atrim for me stands for a really good balanced blade (distal taper), and that shines on a bigger blade. A good "tactical" machete I'll get from CS much cheaper and I still don't see the value here.

Pretty short for a cutlass or broadsword imo.

Personally the cutlass and "broadsword" would appeal to me much more if they had longer blades.
Supposedly in the next year CAS will also release a version of the Zombie Slayer Tactical Longsword. Now that is something I wouldn't mind.

Nice! The Gladius i definitely taken! I like that product line, and while i feel the katana is too narrow for my taste the cutlass is very good and fits.

The 'Zombie Slayer' CAS design looks a lot like the old ATrim/Valiant design. Not a bad problem at all to have.

Now that is something I wouldn't mind. Yeah, that's the biggest reason I haven't picked one up. The blade should be like 4 or 5 inches longer. Even for camping or brush cutting I think it would benefit from the length.

I like the broadsword, but somehow I just want to see someone build a fancier guard over it and I'd be 100% happier Never been much of a fan of tacticool sheathes though. They fulfill their purpose but they just are so ugly to look at

I like the broadsword better. The other one, although not bad, looks like it could have a fragile point. But beyond that, I couldn't comment on the blade. The grip, however, appears to be a little larger than necessary but without handling, that's just speculation. I do like the scabbards, however. They look very practical and much better than a cheap-looking leather sheath, which so many otherwise good hunting knives seem to have.

... The Kingston model issues. ... Issues? Please elaborate. The first round (with black grip) had issues and were sold as such but we corrected all those a while ago. Haven't heard anything but praise regarding the Type XIV and XVIII we currently have on offer from Gus. Genuinely curious. Thanks! Blake

Haven't heard anything but praise regarding the Type XIV and XVIII we currently have on offer from Gus. Genuinely curious. Thanks! Blake I managed to nab one of the first round XIV with "issues" and I absolutely love it! It's so nimble and well-balanced I sent it to Steven Huerta for a grip rewrap and scabbard redye to dark brown with the intention of using a Caswell copper electroplating kit on the pommel, guard and chape. I managed to get the chape and pommel well plated but couldn't manage to get the guard done nicely, so I sanded off that attempt and put that project on hold. I even though my first plan didn't work, I love the blade (mirror-polished 9620! Hell yeah!) and the scabbard and regrip look great (Steven did an AMAZING job!), I still consider it one of my favorite pieces. Ironically, it's this XIV that is probably going to keep me from buying one of the new APOC pieces. It's so handy I have a hard time thinking the broadsword or gladius would out do it in the handling department. I also really wish the blade length on these APOC series pieces were a bit longer. I imagine that would likely drive up the price quite a bit because they'll require longer stock to start with, but I have a hard time justifying a purchase, even if I like the design, with a blade shorter than I'd like. That said, I'll probably end up picking up the gladius because it keeps calling to me.

Including the irony that I too think the "wrong" earlier design is actually markedly better. It's not Kingston I was being critical of. (And your sidesword remodel is very nice and the katzbalger VERY lovely and actually quite tempting.) It's that all the models bearing the whole "Angus Trim designed" designation I've had--from multiple makers--have been something of disappointments. Never terrible, never drastically overpriced, but absolutely nothing special either. Don't know if its wholly on his end or something lost in translation.

I was worried you'd seen some construction or performance issues I wasn't aware of... Thanks for clarifying, and I can get behind that completely. Different strokes and all that. Have a good one. On the Kingston arms xiv I bought a "off spec" earlier one.
Sent it back & bought a windlass xiv & I really did prefer it.
It was the balance for me.
On the APOC swords how do they compare to the Banshee?
I really love that blade, so if similar you can't go wrong in my opinion. Especially because of the steel.
