thanks for the review looks very nice, all the battlecry stuff seems decent Thanks, yes they're not bad swords for the price. I don't think there's much if any differences between them and other standard Windlass swords. What's best about them is they're no nonsense traditional designed swords. Which is a plus compared to the more glitzy and "Marto inspired" swords they've been releasing lately.

nddave, Do you think the blade has the same polish level you'd get in a standard Windlass sword, *then* they blue it? I'm wondering if they use bluing to hide imperfections in the finish. Just a thought...

Just a thought... Yes I believe so, even with the bluing it's quite reflective. Very smooth to the touch as well. I think the illusion of roughness comes from the way they apply the bluing solution as it has these small thin marks here and there. I think that's there purposely to give that "battle worn" look they advertise.

On my one Battlecry sword I’d say the finish is better than on my other Windlass swords from the stand point I don’t see the waves that I do when looking down a Windlass blade. So far as polish, grind marks, etc. about equal. The cutting edge I’d say superior as Windlass blades are unsharpened and to receive one sharpened the vendor does that on premise and the quality is definitely below that of what comes on a Battlecry. From what I see they are not using the bluing to cover up imperfections. The finish on my one Battlecry is equal to or better than on my best Windlass. I've been wanting a basket hilt broad sword and maybe, just maybe this is the one. I need to recover from the Agincourt Sword first, but the jury is still out.

Good review and thanks for posting.
I have a few basket hilts but really don't like the way they handle. I just find the grips with the confines of the basket uncomfortable.

I definitely understand where you're coming from, basket hilts like these take some getting used to. Especially if you're used to a cruciform hilt or swept hilt single hander or even if the person favors a two handed grip.

Thanks for posting the review. It's cool to see more pictures of the finish on these blades, hearing positive impressions of the aesthetic is nice. Also cool to see that the frog is detachable and usable with other swords, I haven't seen the frog removed before and had developed a bizarre idea that it was permanently attached.

Thanks, yea I didn't know how well I'd like the all black look but it isn't too bad really. The grip is what sets this apart though as the silver and black looks really nice. The frog is actually pretty decent for a freebee. The scabbard loops aren't adjustable so your limited on what will fit. Though ad far as holding the sword it keeps the sword in place and the belt suspensions keep the sword from swinging or dragging on the ground. The maximum scabbard diameter that will fit it is around 5" and anything smaller than 4" will slide through.

Little update, not cutting today as it's overcast with a thunderstorm brewing (obviously not the best conditions for a cutting test, unless you're wanting to replicate the best golf game scene in Caddy Shack, lol) so we'll see how the weather is tomorrow.

Sounds like our weather. Don’t know about you but we have six more months of this mess. In Florida we called in liquid sunshine.

It's been gray and drissly the past few weeks here in Northern California. I like the rain, smells nice but can do without wind.
