But to answer the original thread question, tatami's just expensive. Would rather spend the money on other things. I don't really dig cutting bottles much anymore since they're just not much of a challenge and it uses a ton of water. I guess I should maybe check out soaked newspaper, could be a fun change of pace. My fav targets are wet newspaper around old discarded pool noodles. Slip a thin 1/2 " softwood in there and you've got something that ( in my humble opinion) can be constructed to suit any target requirement from upright straight sticks to t shaped to odd shaped ronin figured. I use the 1/2 inch to support say and outstretched limb holding a stick to represent having to move around an enemy and strike (block at a distance, close, counter, strike and finish). It's a bastatdization of anythingb ive seen on the tube and sometimes its not pretty but it works for me đź‘Ť next time I construct and demolish I'll have a buddy take some vid (God I hope those hakama pants fit...i wanna look the part) Keith Interesting ideas, I'll have to give them a stab sometime.

Sometimes...the only thing which keeps me from cutting is the realization that the universe is so random and meaningless that even making myself feel pain is an empty gesture.

Sometimes its better if people think you are a little rough around the edges, it dampens their predatory instincts and keeps them better behaved. Just keep legal and remember not to say things in public that you don't want repeated back to you in court.
I haven't had the experience, but I know a couple people here in Central America who had had to hit people with the flat of a machete to encourage a little respect. It seemed to have worked under the circumstances.
All that being said, I am glad I am retired. The workplace in the United States has become a politicized nightmare, the thought police everywhere. Merit counts for much less than PC.

I had some free time yesterday so I bought 24 case of waterbottles and cut them with my cutlass machete. Have to say it was the most fun I had in weeks. Even got my girlfriend to do the zero distance cut thing, in a way people without much cutting experience do. For about 2 bucks it was real fun

Time and place. No time, and no place (except sometimes on weekends).
Transferring to a new house that’s more private though, so ideally this will be rectified. And I’m not all that scared of paranoid neighbors. But I think people are less PC in my country.
