Your opinions as to the quality of the Marlin 39a lever action .22 rifle? I am considering purchasing one that was made in the late 60's. It isn't mint, but in extremely good shape.

It's the steel on the inside that counts.

Heck of a good little 'snake-charmer' ...used to have one, years ago. It's a simple piece, but well done. Get it!

Marlins are good guns, it's hard to go wrong with one. If you want a reliable little shooter you've made a good choice.

My Dad has my Grandpa's old lever action Marlin 336. It's incredible. I hear that since Remington bought Marlin out several years ago the quality went down for a long, long time, but the ones from before that are sweet. I'd love to see it when you get it.

Did the FFL transfer in Bellevue on Thursday at Westcoast Armory ... wow this gun is in AMAZINGLY great condition, especially considering that it is 50 years old! I Haven't taken any of my own pics yet, here are the two that were in the add on Armslist where I found it. Attachments:Marlin39A.docx (70.74 KB)

My dad gave me a 39A Mountie back in the mid ‘50s, probably the first year they came out. Eventually I mounted a Weaver 2½ power scope on it and later changed to a 4X Redfield. Proved to be a good squirreler. I gave it to my son about a decade ago. Good rifle.

I restored a Marlin 22 for my father in law and really the only things wrong with it were one internal that had freakishly snapped (late 60's gun as well) and the insane amount of rust on it because my father in law is a farmer and leaves his guns in various states of disrepair for decades at a time.
Cleaned up great with the new part. Fully expect it to go for a few more decades before having to fix anything else.

Pre-Remington Marlins are always a good find. Good choice, congrats on the acquisition!

augustine- I have a “Remlin” (1895GBL) that I bought a few months ago, and I absolutely love it! I was a bit hesitant due to the rumors of sloppiness and shoddy construction, but my 1895 is flawless! I’m sure that for a few years quality control hit an all time low, but that’s not the case anymore. Great choice with the model 39a by the way!
