Yep. The question is just which one. There are so many 357s to choose from! S&W, Ruger, Kimber, Taurus, etc etc etc With money there are really two general names in town, Smith and Ruger. If you kinda like revolvers you will probably end up with a smaller one and a larger one, as there is such a difference between the two you will want to get more specific. However, a "do it all" can be done, though it will be a "jack of all trades" kind of deal.

Man, I don't even know what "UN" refers to or anything about "The Black Company" book. Is it a good book? Longshot was probably an understatement with me...as I'm on Pluto.
Edit: Looked up The Black Company"...sounds cool, as I like good fantasy. If you've read the books, how does it all compare to say "Song of Fire and Ice" novels that "Game of Thrones" is based on? Sounds like they are gonna do some TV/movie stuff, so it must have garnered some interest.

UN is short for User Name. The Howler was a powerful sorcerer in the series. Pic of him below. I'd highly recommend if you're look for some quick fantasy reads with unique stories.

As far as comparing it to Game of Thrones, its a very different type of story. In the Black Company, the main characters are mercenaries who get used as pawns by much bigger and more powerful actors in a huge fantasy war. It makes for an interesting story because as the reader, just like the main characters, you're never quite sure whats going on or who to trust.
But anyway its really good. Good enough that I've read it twice.

I want an actual Colt 7.5 barrel six shooter but all the stores are out of them. You can find a few on certain sites that are new but the few vendors that have them have marked them up on average 5-6 hundred over MSRP. The Cimarron Italian imports are very well made clones but have always wanted a Colt. Problem is Colt only releases a very limited number of these types and normal dealers sell out quickly and many smaller shops jack the prices way up as they are hard to find.
I have .45lc in Cimarron, S&W and Ruger. I don't think the Colts are really worth the big price difference but just want one....lol

Elmer Keith used his own load in his .44s. He thought the factory loads were "too hot." He also thought the .357 was good for someone with weak hands.

A little off topic but have been thinking of getting a Schofield 1875 TOP BREAK 45LC 7-inch. These have to be one of the coolest revolvers I have seen. I literally JUST saw one of these two days ago on GunBroker. There’s a video on YouTube of a British gentleman comparing one of the old top-break revolvers to the more modern revolvers, to see which could be loaded faster after emptying the cylinder. Not so surprisingly the top-break won! If I can find the video again I’ll post it. They are super cool, but you gotta treat them GENTLE in regards to powerful rounds. There is a lot of force being hit on the place where the top break connects. Definitely fun to shoot, but the price in regards to the fragility has always kept me away from the repros.

Yeah, you would have to tamp down the overkill on those .44s. His recommendation of .357 for weak handed people means you don't mess will Elmer. Siberian Tigers must be tabby cats in his mind.

For self-defense Taurus ultra-light hammerless from the pocket. A hammerless revolver? *Gasp* get thee gone witch! ;-) I love my hammers and they will have to be taken from me kicking and screaming.

Yes, it will get hard to get away without someone dropping a hammer To be fair, this would be about the only one I'd be cool with because it looks like something out of Blade Runner :-P

I think if I were into C.A.S and had the whole cowboy “getup” I’d be a little more thorough in searching. I’ve always compared older, more antiqued things (guns and swords included) to a trophy wife: great to show off to your friends, and bring to social events, but after that the uses start to run out! 😉 I’ve had my eyes set on a beautiful stainless Uberti, chambered in 45LC with a 5 1/2” barrel and an “ivory” handle, for quite some time now. I may have to pull the trigger on that very soon!

Oh definitely, putting jacked up loads in the top-breaks would ruin such a great design! Also you’re right about the price. If I could find an older, slightly pitted model with the thought of restoring it, then maybe.

You can usually find some original colts, but expect to pay top dollar as collectors have inflated the price. Gunbroker is probably the best place to get a deal.

I have been looking at Guns America and all the newer or new Colts are inflated 400-1000 over MSRP. Just crazy.

Right now I’ve just got a 4” kimber but it’s a unique look and it shoots great! If you want a real trip for a gun with inflated value check out the fk BRNO. Cool gun, stupoppppid price.
