The scenario:
A plague decimates the majority of the world's population. It does not stop with humans as just about all animals are subject to the ravages of this disease. In an effort to blame someone, several governments start pointing fingers. Soon some of those fingers start pressing buttons and nuclear missiles are launched. Most of the launched nukes are destroyed by orbiting satellites armed with lasers. A small portion of the missiles touch down and a few more detonate in the atmosphere. This causes devastation on the ground and the EMPs from those detonating in the atmosphere knock out virtually all electrical systems. Most of the shielded systems are in the areas where the nukes touched down.
The shifting winds spread radioactive dust all around causing vegetation to wither and die. Less than 5% of the world's population is left after 10 years as people starve to death and fight over hoarded food, seeds and the small bits of usable land and potable water. Over the next 50 years or so the population continues to decrease until it approximates 1%.
It is now 200 years later and things have stabilized. There are small communities where wells are dug, some gardens and domesticated livestock are manned by the few people living there. A currency system has been set up using gold, silver and store credits for the few stores. The population has risen to about 2% pre-apocalypse (PA) and there is a market for artifacts from the past that will help with the future.
You have chosen to be an explorer and find usable artifacts. There are packs of coydogs, wolves, feral dogs, a few mountain lions, grizzlies and raiders out in the wilds for you to contend with. About one in a hundred people have a firearm and most of them are flintlocks. Primers, percussion caps being not worth the trouble to produce. You are not one of those 1%.
The contest is to take a picture or pictures of yourself in your best attire to explore the wastelands. You need to have your chose of blades, a missile weapon and gear packed to carry. You do not need anti-radiation gear as areas still contaminated are fairly easy to discern. The background of your photos should be representative of your chosen post-apocalyptic corner of the world. You may make as many entries as you like provided the weapons and gear are suitably different.
There will be a single prize winner chosen by poll or progressive polls (based on quantity of entries) of the members here.
You have till June 1st 2018, to enter. Post your entries to this thread. The prize is two swords, the first is the Windlass Type XIV sword, I just received. The second is a Masahiro Mt. Fuji Katana donated by 28Shadow. Both swords will go to the winner. Shipping will be covered by myself up to $40. I will ship overseas but the winner will be responsible for fees in excess of the $40 and is responsible for any taxes or other fees.
Don't hesitate to ask any questions.

great contest, thanks to the contributors, but i have a question what about those people in areas where fire arms or other missile weapons are prohibited? can they do without it in the pics? They are not prohibited, just not in any great supply. At this point they are still spending most of their time just trying to stay fed. You don't have a lot of time trying to forge barrels and locks when you spend most of your day either farming or guarding your livestock from feral dogs or coyotes. There are a very small percentage of cartridge guns around but the ammo is very suspect and rarely used even if you find one. Which for the sake of this contest, you haven't ! There are also several communities along the shore so fishermen and their families are probably the best fed folk. Small sailing ships are used for fishing but they more closely resemble ships from 500 years ago.

You still may wish to don that radioactive gear, because those remaining contaminated areas will probably have the choicest artifacts (assuming they are uncontaminated or can be rendered as such). Very intriguing setup. I imagine under such a scenario the environment would be pretty desert like, with sage grass and few larger, older vegetation. Imagine Road Warrior.

My Dad and I made one from scratch several years ago. It could hold a dozen bolts and fire one per second. I lost it in a move unfortunately

I lost it in a move unfortunately The Chinese example, if I remember correctly, wasn't super powerful, but you could just imagine the suppressive fire when used by hundreds of soldiers at closer range.

Mine wasnt super powerful either, if the bow was stronger, you wouldnt be able to operate the rapid crank mechanism. It had a range of about 50 feet.

Hmmm...I don't have much PA gear, but I bet I can cobble something together! Sounds like a fun project to work on for the next month or so. I'll definitely be sporting my CS Gladius machete.

Imagine this PA scenario, breaking into a museum holding medieval armor and weaponry. What was old is new again! Maybe this explains how you indeed got the knightly armor your wearing for the contest.

Lots of black leather with some camo mixed in. I've pretty much got this figured out, but still need to figure out my foraging backpack. Weapons...no problem.

I suppose if you combined Mad Max with the Middle Ages it would get rather Monty Pythonesque. I seem to recall a movie that had knights, motor bikes, and jousting elements, but can't recall the name?
