I've had my #7 longsword for a few weeks now and It's definitely grown on me. It's certainly a hefty sword, but I think it could certainly be worked to be not so heavy. These fittings are rather thick and heavy, and the blade has a little distal taper but it's not as aggressive as I would like. The forte starts are a nice thick 7.5mm, the midblade has 5.2mm and the foible sports 4.3mm until the very last 1" of the blade in which it's 3mm. I think with some effort and new fittings this could be a very lively longsword. Any thoughts? Here are some pictures unceremoniously ripped from KOA to show the sword to those who may not know it.

Faldarin loves this sword but made the same comments as you, about his. He might comment if he sees this.
If the pommel unscrews, a Baron type cross guard or a thin crusader cross guard would be nice. If it's peened, I would tape it off and break out the files and or Dremel and or angle grinder and reshape the cross guard into a thinner crusader type.

Visually, i think the crossguard is rather thick and ugly. Grinding it to be slimmer would be a great improvement. What i would do is dremel the guard such that it becomes an octagonal cross section rather than a square cross section.
The grip could also use a nice leather wrap instead of that cord

As aesthetics go: main changes I'd make would be thin and crisp up the guard, and re-wrap the handle with a nice cord over wood and veg-leather wrap with thinner risers
