decided since i really liked the design of my fantasy dwarvern sword and the chances of it being made commercially are pretty slim i would do it myself lol, started out with the hardest bit the pommel i carved it from wood, fabricated and inserted brass horns and painted it gold and since our fantasy world dwarfs have limited metal available to them, then shaped and engraved the guard (again wood) and finally cut the blade blank to shape still have lots of grinding to do on blade but its a starting point thinking i ll rivet the handle directly to the tang so the force isn't transferred to the wood pommel as think it will break next to original design in hand, blade is going to be done in a knapped steel style, so far way blade heavy but hoping to rectify some of that

I'm dreaming of a short blade, but as broad as the guard at the base, knapped steel, like an obsidian gothic dome. Like an oversized short drop point hunting knife blade. Really aztec dwarfish and not seen before on a sword.

Really aztec dwarfish and not seen before on a sword. sort of like this has a more macuahuitl type handle, current project is a "long sword" about 65cm point to guard, wanted this one to be a more "high ranking " sword figured its a fantasy piece might as well go big, if i had the tech would have made the pommel and guard from brass to look like gold, also kept blade narrow to keep with the limited metal design

Looks great, what type of wood did you use for the pommel?

got blade ground and heat treated/darkened came out pretty close to original plan, really stoked how its coming out has significantly dropped the blade weight and moved the balance back toward being more like a standard sword

I was a little skeptical on how this would turn out from the sketch. Very happy to say it came out great, love the blade. Nice work !

Nice work ! thanks wasn't sure how it was going to turn out myself, blade was originally more viking like on top end but realized it didn't look right so reshaped it to closer resemble an obsidian shard

thanks guys just glad i didnt screw it up totally lol , as for dino- machuahitil you could do something like this so the shape of the dino top down gives the shape of the club with the head at the top and the tail forming the handle, could be all wood or could make metal/magelass spikes sort of like this

Haha, exactly this shape I had in mind as the blade for the dwarvern sword.

Wow that looks really cool. I really like how the blade looks, like some sort of ancient artifact.

You have given me some fine ideas on a dagger blade I have in the works. I love what you did on that blade! That is just AWESOME!

That is really outstanding work. It makes me wonder what you'd do if you had a mill or lathe
