Just bought a DSA Stiletto, and now I'm wondering if there are any old treatises dealing with the use of the stiletto. Just to be absolutely clear, I'm talking about the Renaissance era dagger, not the folding knife.
Thanks!

Ah, I see. So more of a assassination/murder weapon than an "honest" fighting weapon. Interesting. I've heard that they were commonly carried by nobility, which seems to fly in the face of the way they were regarded back then... You'd think people would want to disassociate themselves with what were seen as thugs weapons, wouldn't you?

I think nobility carried them because no one would ever know they had one since they could be hidden up a sleeve or in a waistband.

There are HEMA manuscripts about dagger fighting, Hans Talhoffer f.e.

A lot of stilettos were quite fancy though - it seems they were meant to be shown off and seen by others. Is this a case of thug types tricking out their weapons? Gold plated Desert Eagles? Hmmm....
