Markus Bowie made by Ursa...
Since I was more than satisfied with three previous orders from knife maker Gulzan Ahmed, found on ebay as ursacraftsman1, and he is open to custom orders, I decided to ask him if he would make my personal bowie knife – largely influenced by medieval German Bauernwehren/Hauswehren and South-American Gaucho knives.
After having sent Mr. Ahmed my sketch and specifications as well as my target price he accepted my order and quickly got back at me with a drawing of his own, perfectly matching the concept I had in mind. After my confirmation and the PayPal payment, he made the knife very promptly. After just a few days he sent me a number of excellent pictures of the finished knife, next to a scale and to his drawing, showing the piece from multiple angles. I was exited seeing the finished product on picture and pleased with how perfectly it matched my original sketch the project started out with. The package made its way from Pakistan to Germany in just a few days. I was stunned when I had the knife in my hands, and still am every time I fondle it.
Mr. Ahmed impressed me once again, with his craftmanship, his understanding of making an excellent fighting knife and his perfect service and communication. Once again, I recommend him highly. Repeatedly highly satisfied, I am already planning another custom order from Mr. Ahmed − although this design is hard to beat by my imagination, at least regarding this general style of knife and the mode of usage it used to be intended for. As you can tell I am thoroughly amazed by the outcome of this process and quite proud of my Markus Bowie.
Is it my all-time favorite? Well, inch by inch, pound 4 pound, the Forrest Bowie is hard to beat. All of these Ursas thrust, chop and slice extremely well.
Some of the pics I got sent from Ursa...

Rough Rider Coffin Handle Bowie. Very nice for the money, very nice.
Compared to Windlass Horn Handled Bowie and Ursa Edwin Forrest Bowie. RR1643 in the middle.

Wow, now that’s a nice one! Thanks for those fantastic pictures! Love the smooth transition from the ricasso towards the edge. Seems to have a more sturdy tip than the Ursa. One thing I like about the Ursa is the slender grip section at the thumb/index finger area – liked that about the Natchez, too. And yours came with a very nice sheath. Oh, how I’d love to compare both knives in person.
Seems like you did a great job on the clip of that Natchez, impressive! A big thank you for sharing!

It has that wow factor and that nostalgia of a time when bowies were given that extra love, almost like a large knife version of rapier or smallsword if you will. A weapon/tool tied into American cowboy/outlaw culture that never dies. My thoughts exactly!

Regarding the regrind: Yes, I wonder if my Natchez with the reground clip point might pass your stabbing tests better lol Why not test it? Up to sixteen layers of denim (jeans pants) over a block of Styrofoam…
It’s still somewhat of a miracle to me, but an idea is that the point was angled in rather unfavorable direction for straight thrusting…

If I had to pick two of my knives to take into hell to fight against the legions of the demonic or against any man, beast or machine.. I would take these 2. My choices, Ursa lead hand, Becker off-hand. Attachments:

Beauty AND beast at over 1 3/4lbs. Knife in name only as more a short sword, and if durable a long bladed hatchet for utility.

JohnsonCheck, check, check, check...all boxes covered, but I believe I'd let my beard grow out a spell before that shave.

That brought back memories long forgotten. I rolled many. I used Bull Durham tobacco. It came in a draw string pouch and of size to fit the pocket. I wonder if they are still in business? Drank my share or bourbon before switching to rum. Tried shaving with my knife but it was too large to be satisfactory. I have a straight razor that I use from time to time. Now I’m beginning to ramble better stop.

Haha well that's because you aren't quite man enough yet, a real desperado would shave with it against the grain with the only lubricant being some smeared on Bourbon(That you spilled on yourself accidentally during a bar fight)...while chewing on a lit, fat, hand-made cigarette. Monty Pythons "Lumberjack Song" starts to play...

I remember when it was called “country and western music”. Now it’s just “country music”. Tex Ritter, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Sons of the Pioneers, Riders of the Purple Sage, and others are gone now. I can’t relate a bowie to any of those but I can with the above video although I don't call that western but country.
