Hey all,
Little advice please. I have a sword blade, and I'd like it threaded for my project. I'm having difficulty finding a machine shop that would be able to thread it. They all say it's too hard and will break their tools. Any advice?
Thank you

Use a torch to normalize the end of the tang so that it isn't hardened any more. Then buy a tap and die set and just thread it yourself.

Basically not a problem. There are (hand-) thread cutting tools with far above 60hrc. Of course there are types of steel which are better suited for machining than others. Maybe you can tell us the company of the blade? It is also unlikely that the tang is hardened in the area where the pommel sits.

It's from Darksword. My papa does have a tap and die set, but I don't think it's that tough of one, I would trust it for repairing already existing threads... I was just looking for an easy way out Well... that and the blade is the expensive part of this build, don't want to screw up the threads. I figured it would be an easy go for a machine shop. But the machine shops in my area (Ottawa) don't want to touch it as it looks too hard.
