I am trying to find information on 2 swords I own.
The first is a Victorian era sword.
The guard is gripped in the lions mouth on the pommel which I believe pre dates to before 1890.
The basket has a fouled anchor with St Edwards crown above and the anchor 'cross piece' is angled.
The folding piece does not have the hole to clip onto the scabbard as in others I have seen.
The grip is a white ray skin with what looks to be copper wire wrapped around.
The blade is etched on both sides with Damascus star and brass proved plug on one side and on the folding side is the makers name which is difficult to read.
MA**AY *ul**ter and what looks like Devonport.
(Blade has rust and pitting in this area)
I think it is MACKAY but I am not certain.
The blade is slightly curved and is 77cms long, 25mm wide and 8mm thick near the guard.
Sword is approx 91.5cm total length.
I am missing the tip of the scabbard
This sword is reasonably heavy compared to the other and looks battle damaged.
I wish I knew the original owners name.
The second sword is a more modern style.
The guard meets the pommel under the lions chin.
The basket has a similar anchor and crown but the anchor is straight and is smaller overall.
Folding piece clips onto the scabbard and is stamped BRNC
Ray skin grip with what looks like gold wire.
Blade is straight, no etching or marking but has a no 95698 on the spine.
Blade is 79cms 22mm wide and about 5mm thick near the guard.
Total length 94cms.
Someone told me it may be a Wilkinson NCO sword from the Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth which seems correct.
I'll try to post some pics.
