Has anybody of you guys some experience with the Devils Edge xiphos from KOA. I want to get one but after finding mixed reports about it I am not absolutely sure anymore.
The review of Skalagrim of the xiphos is very favourable but I also find some people not very covinced about the xiphos. It is very cheap so it is just normal, that It cannot compete with higher priced swords concering the quality but according to Skall it is still quite a good usable sword.
Thats what I am looking for.
Would be happy if some people could tell me their experiences with the xiphos. Or somebody can even recommend an alternative maker for an battle ready xiphos..
Thanks for the help in advance
Greetings from Austria

Good news, bad news. It seems there are serious qc issues with Devil's edge stuff and KOA has stepped in and is inspecting each piece and selling the losers as seconds. Attaboy KOA!
I don't know if KOA is marking them as seconds, if not they will play havoc on the used market and trash the brand.
From what I see the good ones from koa are probably a value in the price range and I will eventually order one, but not on the secondary marketsight unseen.
I don't buy Chinese or Depeeka, so I am limited in the budget range. This is pushing me up a notch price wise.

Hey Pete. Sorry I missed your message. I reviewed my own Devil's Edge Xiphos that I got some time after Skall did his review: Late 2016 - Devil's Edge XiphosAs bebut mentioned - they're now apparently doing better QA on these. For what I paid? It's still a good sword - I just wish I had sent it back for a better one. For its flaws, it's quite a decent cutter, and difficult to beat for the price. I suggest you read my review if you want the full story rather than that TL:DR. Even with minor-to-moderate flaws it's functional, and looks good.

pete085, you might find this thread at myArmoury helpful. After reading Matthew Amt’s comments (and learning he had input on the design) I am actually leaning toward the Deepeeka over the Devil’s Edge when I get around to getting a xiphos. More food for thought. A Tale of Two Xiphoi

I'd go with the Deepeeka. More accurate, and from what I've seen with their newer models they seem to be pretty decent HT wise, unlike Devils edge which seem to either not care or not know to heat treat.

Their website describes the swords as "untampered" which I assume is "untempered." KOA lists all their swords as "battle ready" but I wonder whether that is true without a heat treat?

I had assumed they were tempered as KoA had listed them as battle ready, but that wouldn't be the first time they messed up on an item description.

KOA lists all their swords as "battle ready" but I wonder whether that is true without a heat treat? It would be as battle ready as historical xiphoi. (Not KOA's criterion, though.)
