This past weekend, I competed in the advanced cutting tournament at the Rose City Classic in Portland, Oregon and won the bronze medal. Lee Smith won the gold medal and Julian Schuetze took home the silver medal. Thanks Julian for providing this footage of the cutting feats! The sword that I used in this tounament was my ATrim XVia.4 longsword.
After the initial elimination rounds, there were two final round feats. One feat involved cuts through three tatami mats. I performed a descending true edge cut, followed by an ascending false edge cut and finally an ascending true edge cut.
The other feat was something that I am very excited to see in a cutting tournament: cuts on a linen wrapped target! A single tatami mat target was wrapped in 2 layers of linen. Cuts were scored based on their difficulty. A sturtzhau (plunging false edge cut) was worth the maximum: 4 points. Complex false edge cuts, such as a scheilhau or sotani, were worth 3 points. Basic true edge cuts were worth either 2 point (e.g. mittlehau) or one point (e.g. oberhau). I first performed a sturtzhau, followed by descending false edge cuts from the right and left, and then sotanis from the right and left. I hope to see more linen cutting feats like this in future cutting tournaments!

Very nice cutting! I hadn't seen a linen-wrapped target before either... that's bound to be much more challenging. Also glad to see the ATrim being used in such a situation. (I need to put a little better edge on the XVIa I have from him.)

Very nice cutting.
I don't know if you've ever done a video or write up on how you cut with the sword in two hands, but I would be extroidinarily interested in seeing one.
It looks like you let the sword cast a little bit in the strong hand, is that correct?
The way you cut looks very unique compared to most other cutters and competition cutters out there.

I like this a lot. One of the things that stood out was the way that you addressed your target and the act of cutting, there was an emotional distance that I enjoyed. Many times people get target fixation or try to over-sell what they are doing. I really like that you let your performance speak for itself.
You seemed a little disappointed in something around :39. That draws attention. I only mention it in case it may be of value to you.
Again, this was well done, and well presented.
