Anybody buy their blades? I've been pondering getting the d'capitan saber for a while. I also made a thread in the Renaissance / military swords and got a bunch of people saying inconclusive stuff with one person not being satisfied with the edge because they like to shave their beard with a sword or something, that sharp. What do you guys think? Are their blades worth the money, can they actually cut? Are they too thick? too beefy for you? etc. I may end up getting it one day regardless though and we'll see how it is This thread is for talking about this "new" company and their 'tools' www.zombietools.net/shop/dcapitan-sabre/

I have a few of them. They have that "cool" factor with their tactical designs. I have not cut with them but the blades are pretty beefy. Many are on the heavier side compared to regular swords. The blades sort of remind me of regular sword blunts that have been sharpened. The new saber they came out with handles very well.
Most of the weapons I would consider hacking type ones. They are stout and I doubt they would fail even with extreme use. I like them for what they are but they are not traditional looking or handling for the most part. From what I have seen, they will cut hard targets pretty well.

Do you think they could cut through clothing material like butter?

I think they would with effort. I have seen videos of unsharpened swords cut. I bet there are videos of cutting with ZT on the web.

If you buy it would be interesting to see a video of this cutting through cloth. My guess is that a sharp thinner blade would do so better. Just guessing.

if original edge, don't count on it to cut through fabric well. I sharpened 2 for my students before, edge modded.

Out of all their designs, the D'capitan saber really speaks to me. I came very close to buying it several times, but couldn't find any good reviews and it's not a cheap blade (to me, anyway). So, I never pulled the trigger on it.
If someone gets one, I'd love to see an actual in depth review!

I have had/have almost all of them...get one you won’t be disappointed... they are overbuilt for hard use and it’s the only thing I’d use if the SHTF.
p.s. If you don’t like it they are easy to sell if you need to for people who don’t want to do the wait time.

Cutting through fabric is more difficult than one would think - and I wouldn't trust any 'factory' edges to do so, least of which a 'durability-focused' edge like ZT. It's tough even with ATrims out of the 'box' - but a couple Lonely Wolf Forge-sharped blades? Yeah.

I have a few. Very nice, but definitely on the beefy side. Don't think the factory edges are suited for cutting through fabric so easily, but I haven't tried. They seem more chopping oriented. I was able to get part of the edge on The Hooligan more razor-like with a whetstone, but my sharpening skills are very hit or miss.

If you want a tough "forged" blade get it from me.

If you want a tough "forged" blade get it from me. I agree. Fallen makes incredible blades at very reasonable prices! I managed to snag a lightweight cutter from him that is very sharp and fast as lightning, excellent attention to detail. I'd check with him to see what he can do before you go the ZT route, if I were you.

The ZT Xiphos and Diphos have the best distal tapering i ever saw, especially in the "tactical" or "fantasy" range; also plain appleseed edge. Got mine from Bill, ask him. First time seeing it live, i wouldnt believe its from ZT. Same with my new Apokatana. Nothing here is overbuilt, nor too heavy. Normaly their edges have srcondary bevels, but thank god there are some guys around here who know that thats no problem. Professional sharpening is a good thing for almost every production blade, though.

If you want a tough "forged" blade get it from me. I'll jump on this bandwagon. I was fortunate enough to get a few pieces - short swords - from L Driggers (Fallen). All of mine came with a very sharp durable edge of appropriate geometry. The 5160 steel had an excellent heat treatment/temper; resilient and very tough. They were hand forged with subtlety and precision. I'm a fan.
