I got my double barrel flintlock today. It'll never be fired (stupid UK laws) but it's functional, and gorgeous. Really, it needs a little TLC on the wood and to tidy up and polish the metalwork. It's what I expected of a relatively-cheap, Indian-made pistol. Wish I could fire the beast!

Looks good in the photo. It's a shame about your laws.

Ooh, that's nice looking! Is there no sanctioned place you can take it to where you would be allowed to fire it? That's a bummer.

brotherbanzai , I could fire it if I could get a Firearms Certificate, and have the pistol listed on it. If I did so it would forever make the pistol a firearm and, when I lost the FAC, I would lose the pistol. It's a really stupid set of laws that the UK has around these things. To get the FAC I would have be a long-term, active member of a club where that particular pistol could be fired. Or be a member of the landed gentry. Basically, it just costs too much money and complications. As long as I do not intend to fire it, and do not drill the touch hole, it is legal to own as it is without the FAC. If I lived over the water in France, I could fire it and it wouldn't even be considered a firearm! celegon , No, no marks like that. I was considering even etching some engraving onto it some time, to make it more like the originals. I saw a nice pair of the antiques, French made, on an auction site starting at $8000. Other than not being finished as nicely (not the same pride in making these as with the originals I guess) mine is very similar. It's a nice pistol and well worth getting if you like it. The locks function very nicely. Good, solid lock-up in half and full rooster*, the frizens snap closed securely and the release is fast and crisp. I guess it would fire quite well, although I've read that these sometimes do need a little careful tuning for reliable ignition. *rooster... you have to love the swear filter auto replacing C words.. Cock Cock Cock! Hey, the second one got through

RickDastardly, Ah that's too bad. Certainly does seem like it would be an awful lot of trouble. Very good looking piece in any case.

Looks like the same company that made my Sea Service Pistol. Do you have to drill your touch hole yourself, no no in the pistol the pistol. You know what they say, you don't get in trouble for breaking the law only for getting caught breaking the law. Be a pirate.

Arrr!
Yeah, they do the Sea Service pistol too. I nearly went for that because it's more period-accurate for a pirate, but I fell in love with the double barrel. Besides, if Vane can use one in Black Sails, it's good enough for me.
The lack of touch holes is to get around Indian laws mainly but it helps elsewhere too of course. The firearms dealer I got mine from will drill the holes for an extra £10. Need an FAC to buy it then though.

I drilled mine myself, the company I bought if from included a 5/64" ( .078 ) drill bit with it.
