I found a seax that i finally like and managed to get it. it does have about a 2mm safety edge according to the edge (looks closer too 1mm). so i was wondering if it is possible to get that to a sharp edge using the normal sharpening method (with a belt grinder) or if different grinding methods e.g. flat grinding is needed to get an edge sorry about the image quality. not the best camera. I use files to sharpen my swords. Works well, and then I finish it with a Fallkniven DC3 whetstone.
Your 2MM edge should be easy with a belt sander, just be wary of not taking too much off the tip.

Do you know if the steel was heat treated? If a blade is sold with a safety edge then typically there is no need to heat treat it because it's made for display or reenactment.
If this correct then you might not get a sharp edge or a sharp edge that will hold. If you had hardness testing files you'd be able to determine of the blade would hold an edge.
