Months ago I and Simon designed a sword to be made by Longship Armoury but I proceeded to get a prototype from Lung Chuan first. The Lung Chuan one arrived today. I spent 1.5 hours to put a DMT 8000 edge on it and then tested it out.

Got it. That blade appears to be wickedly sharp.

Got it. That blade appears to be wickedly sharp. Well, you know me. :D The metallurgy wasn't good enough to hold it against chopsticks though but can be fixed by adding a bigger micro bevel on it. I will look forward to my Longship Armoury version LOL. This one came as 1 mm thicker than my spec. at the tip, thus feeling axe like LOL.

Pitting Lung Chuan Simon Maru against Longship Armoury Tengu and No Remorse in a speed test in quick combo strikes. Simon Maru was the lightest at 3 lbs and No Remorse was the heaviest at 4 lbs 5oz.

Where is the CoG for all the swords in the speed test?

Where is the CoG for all the swords in the speed test? The simon maru lung chuan version, which came with 1mm thicker than my design in the tip, balanced at 9.5" down the guard. Tengu is 5", No Remorse is 3.75" I think.

The differences in CoG definitely show in the speed testing. The Simon Maru from Lung Chuan seems to be far less nimble than the Longship Armoury swords.
I've seen your cutting videos, but how does the Simon Maru feel in the cut compared to your Tengu and No Remorse?
What are your conclusions about the Simon Maru prototype's design after working with it?
Do you think the Longship version will perform significantly different from the Lung Chuan version?

What are your conclusions about the Simon Maru prototype's design after working with it? Do you think the Longship version will perform significantly different from the Lung Chuan version? During the two handed cuts, the Simon Maru feels great with very little resistant felt despite the target was huge. It was on par with the Longship Armoury swords, maybe even slightly better than the Tengu. During single handed cuts, the difficulty of getting it up to speed started to show on the diagonal strike and caused it to fail to completely go through the target. The Longship ones will cut through with these strikes definitely. My conclusion on the prototype was that if they made it to my design, it would have WORKED! The Longship version will perform very differently from the Lung Chuan version, since John Lundemo is capable of going thin and still heat treat right. My Simon Maru would just be like a longer, narrower and lighter Silvia. :) No more axe like handling! YEAH!

I was wrong. Tengu cuts better on the same diameter roll. :D Video coming soon.
