Here is another video that I have been meaning to make for a while.
There are a couple of videos out there with me cutting a full tatami mat with a parrying dagger. Today I did some more dagger cutting, this time with a Scottish dirk. I cut a full tatami mat and then another full mat wrapped in a layer of cotton cloth. The purpose of the video is to explain the principle behind the powerful hewing cuts that I perform with daggers. As I mention near the end of the video, this principle also is helpful in understanding how to utilize your mass when cutting with single hand blades of different sizes.
I hope you enjoy the video and find it useful!

Thanks for posting this. Do you think cuts like this would work when fighting?

I don't see why not. The idea is that you lock your wrist at the moment you execute a cut and power the cut with your core, so that you are striking with much more mass than the mass of the dagger. The rest of the time you would fight as you have trained to fight with a dagger.
