hi, Anyone find a real Khopesh online? SBG has some reviews on just a couple basic unsharpened ones but nothing really good. I guess there are not popular, even though I was thinking games of thrones may have revitalized an interest in them since the Dorathki use something similar to them... Anyone know how practical they were? just looking at them they seem to be versatile.. possibly getting around a shield, or disarming an opponent with the hook action..

The kopesh was a bronze age weapon, afaik after the invention of steel swords they vanished. I like the shape too but in steel it's a fantasy weapon (that's ok for me). Scorpion Swords & Knives makes one, they post here in the forum.

Neil Burridge makes very good reproductions of a couple of historical finds: www.bronze-age-swords.com/Egyptian_and%20_Near_East.htm. They're honestly just short swords, nothing functionally special despite the exotic looks. With some of them you can hook a shield like with the beard of an axe, using either the "knee" or the back of the tip, depending, but because the blade is so short the usefulness of this trick is really very situational. That said, the Dothraki arakh as portrayed in the TV show really resembles an Ethiopian shotel far more than a khopesh. These are fairly long, double-edged iron or steel swords with sharply re-curved blades - notably, long enough and curved sharply enough to strike around a shield (or you can cut with them like with any scimitar, of course).

Just gave me an entire new appreciation of the weapon. Do you by chance know of any good sources (books, videos, etc.) demonstrating or describing these techniques? It's a really smart application, just hook around the dead end of a straight-sword.

Maybe the one from Scorpion Swords that just released? It looks pretty good to me. Though I've never dabbled with khopesh before. It does make me want to try one though.

They're not really khopesh, but if you want something that looks and seems like it would handle in very slick fashion... Voltan of Appleseed Sharpening on this forum has started on swords with a bit of a recurve. I'm pretty certain he's still taking commissions on them. AS27 - Another Sickle Sword
