This post is partially in response to a question by forum member Matthew.Jensen regarding this sword:Last weekend, I picked up an Albion Sovereign from their booth at CombatCon 2017. This afternoon, I cut some mats with it. On the first mat, I practiced the 6 basic cuts. On the second, I practiced both false and true edge cuts with my thumb on the blade. Finally, I performed a variation on the lightning cut where the last 2 cuts comprise a double cut. I was very pleasantly surprised with the performance of this sword. I think it actually cuts a bit better than my Albion Knight! Note: The mats used in this video are Japanese used tatami, which are more difficult to cut than typical new tatami (Mugen Dachi).

Nice cutting, indeed! Very cool looking sword, too. No damage, nicks, or anything like that from the cutting? Thanks for the video.

Or loss of sharpness, for that matter. I'm very impressed with the sharpness. When I showed this video to Peter Johnsson, he mentioned that they have been working to improve the edge geometry over the last 1.5 years. And that work seems to be paying off

Yeah, from cutting the tatami was what I meant. Sorry about that; I should have been more clear. I'm not an expert cutter by any means. A newbie, to be more accurate. So, I'm not totally familiar with the possible damage cutting of tough targets can do. That's probably one of the main reasons I'm a newb cutter is that I'm afraid I'll damage my blades in a serious manner due to a bad cut/form or something like that. In any case, glad to hear no such thing happened with your Sovereign. Good to hear Albion is working on improvements with their blades. I think I'll be in the market for my first Albion pretty soon with their Alexandria model.

Very nice cutting as always, I saw you got your hands on it in the new acquisitions thread and instantly got excited to see how it cuts, I have a Yeoman in the making myself, same blade but one fuller, you can't really find any videos of the Yeoman or Sovereign so this is very nice!

Lucky you. The Albion Type XIVs are probably my favorite swords out there from an aesthetic point of view. I've always wanted to get to use one for real.

As I understand it, Matt has been looking for a Sovereign for years :p It's not the sword doing the cutting, it's the man behind it... if if I tried, even with that sword, I might as well use a hammer...lol.
