Very exciting. And a 2mm sabre is not all that bad - definitely would pass arsenal standards back then! :)

Well said Croccifixio, you know how to cheer someone up . And thank you Faldarin! The softer layer is filed away now, but there's still a remarkable bending. So I will be brave on friday and try to straighten the blade with the flame. I hope not to exceed the required temperature of 220°C (straw yellow). It will be a premiere for me doing that. Meanwhile I began to form the grip shells. The part towards the pommel will stay round. The guard side will become some kind of octagonal, although the first impression might let you think it's hexagonal. What you see is just an intermediate level. There's more filing needed to get a clean transition in the middle.

I would be very tempted to grind out the sabering by giving the blade a more slender point... but I think you want it to remain broad at the tip. In that case, I wish you luck with the straightening. 56Si7 is a very good-natured steel and unlikely to break on you so you should be fine.

Everything went fine with the staightening. The slight sabering after the heat treatment is a thing I can live with. No need to correct it from my point of view. I've drawn a comparison to the rest of my swords and noticed that all of the blades (self produced and bought ones) aren't that perfect one always wishes. In my case the straightening was quite easy, only one point on the blade to correct 15cm from the shoulders. It required some serious effort after warming the point to push it until it was straight, but it was absolutely worth it. One worry less . Meanwhile I began with the hand sanding. But there's still a guard who waits to be released from the raw material. I'll keep you up to date...

Poof! Here's the result: Total length: 1275mm Distal taper: 8 to 4mm Blade: 980mm Grip: 220mm + pommel 60mm COP: 650mm POB: 150mm Forward pivot point: 50mm from tip Weight: 1690g No mirror polish this time. There are even left some little scratches in the blade, guard and in the pommel, but they don't bother me. I'm really happy with the result! I'll see, if I shoot some additional pictures with a professional camera this week. This is only for the first impression.

Thank you Faldarin and Croccifixio! Yes, indeed! This time I was a little bit seduced to choose a different grip color. But you see where it ended
