When I search for nihonto I am always looking for the best condition sword possible in a style I like. Not smith name, not what everyone else deems "collectible". This sword that passed NBTHK 24th Tokubetsu Juyo Paper (big deal) is from the very school I love and chase (Ishido School) and note the dimensions; this may may be only the 2nd or at most 3rd time in history this sword was polished! A rare example of a real time work. Amazing. And only $177,000 maybe......... www.aoijapan.com/katana-nagayuki-oite-settsu-koku-saku-korenbthk-24th-tokubetsu-juyo-paper

Naaah. Drool on that, bid on this. Much Less Impressively Origamied Edo Sword The more expensive one only has one mekugi hole, you know that's unsafe. And it's got "noisemakers" (the cheaper Chinese on eBay all have those too). Neither one of them's koto, and if it's going to break while you're parrying your kid's foam cosplay sword, why pay more than you have to?

Tokuju & Jubi/Jubu swords are pretty amazing to see. Of course well outside of the grasp of regular collectors. Amazing items to see and appreciate.

Thanks to everyone for their praise of my depth of scholarship. If you gotta blow the kids' college fund on something that goes "swoosh", I favor this one more Juyo koto with bo-hi. but if I was gonna buy something this exalted, I'd go for this venerable bargain, at only $28.5K Juyo Heian Era katana. I mean, there's some history there, everybody since Genji probably scratched his......back with it, Seriously, for me, swords don't get much better than this example, and it's been around since Ulfbehrts were in fashion, and the English court still spoke Anglo-Saxon

Yup, it appeals to me too, but I'm much more attracted to koto as purchases. Daimyo offers a lot of Muromach/Sengoku stuff. with the occasional Nambokucho or Kamakura showing up. It helps if you're good with stones, a lot of what he has has some rust or scratches. OTOH, their prices pretty well top out at 10K, so browsing there is less potentially damaging to one's budget. A lot of the stuff is cheap enough to refurb as iaito.

That's crazy cool! I suck as a nihonto lover because I prefer shinto blades.

Here's something else I'd consider fit to blow the proceeds on from successfully suing a Chinese sword peddler for my emotional suffering Ko-Bizen Tachi.

I don't claim to be great at it, but I can take a blade from near disaster to near acceptability. You don't suck! I consider shinto fanciers to be a very valuable asset to the hobby. They seldom or never bid on what I bid on. This is good.

"Daimyo offers a lot of Muromach/Sengoku stuff. with the occasional Nambokucho or Kamakura showing up." Yes, those era's/styles have a LOT of bidders. It's like a rule or something.
