Today, I practiced advanced lightning cuts and andvanced double cuts in preparation for the cutting tournament at Longpoint next month. The advanced double cut is a rising true edge cut followed by a false edge zwerchhau. The advanced lightning cut consists of a descending true edge cut, followed by an ascending false edge cut and finally a false edge zwerchhau.

Great cutting Aikidoka, you make these advanced cuts look easy.

Why are these called advanced cuts? Is that what they are called in whatever longsword system you are studying?

Why are these called advanced cuts? Is that what they are called in whatever longsword system you are studying? Those are the names given to these cuts at Longpoint and perhaps at the school(s) involved in running the tournament. Here are the rules for last year's tournament with a description of these cuts: Longpoint 2016 Cutting Rules

Thanks for the reply. Interesting rules and challenge. If I understood the rules correctly, would not the distance the tatami traveled from the stand incur a penalty due to "tatami spray"? Would be interested to see the moving target round of your challenge. Why use the cold steel?
Nice cuts though. your false edge cut was clean.
