last year i got given some excavator bucket teeth from one of the guys i work with so i decided to see if i could fabricate something from one this is how its gone so far left to right kens blade, original tooth, started blade this is it after todays forging planning on grinding it to shape from now on in (thinking big wide blade bowie shape) figure it should only take a few years lol gonna be a big heavy blade but a great exercise in forging

I mean, what are the teeth made from, L6? i have no idea, all my research points to 5160 but i cant be sure, seems to heat treat like 5160, but not the most common thing to make blades from lol finished blade still a couple of dings and inclusions but wicked sharp and looks pretty cool (to my mind), guard is brass handle is jarrah friction fitted /epoxied into place

I like the way this turned out. How does it feel in the hand?

I like the way this turned out. How does it feel in the hand? like a big bad arse chopper but surprisingly well balanced, p.o.b is about an inch past the guard just above the bevels for the edge

I like the hole in the blade. Reminds me of those old survival knives. Nice job!

I like the tip and guard shape. Fits well with each other. Looks very rugged and workmanlike, A true hunting or camp knife.
Off topic - the topic name made me pictire a man catching a blade with his teeth, as in bearing wide and shoving his gleaming chompers into the way of the cut or thrust.
Ouchies

Ouchies thanks overall plan was for a knife that wouldnt look out of place in a mountain man /trappers kit
