After posting the rapier cutting video to the HEMA Alliance Facebook page last week, I was challenged by one of the members to try to perform a wrist cut on a tatami mat with a rapier. After practicing it a few times on half mat targets, I tried it on a full tatami mat:
As I mentioned to a friend of mine from the Phoenix Society, I think I will set aside a mat every week to practice this cut. It can be delivered so quickly!

What kind of edge did you put on your rapier?

Initially I used my 1x30 belt sander to put a sharp edge on the blade. The edge had a little bit of a bevel after that, so before this second cutting session, I sanded the bevel down by hand with sandpaper on a sanding block with the blade clamped down to a table.

You, sir, are a Wizard. Color me impressed!
Ahem. I mean, your videos convince me beyond a shadow of a doubt that there are things -I- need to fix before looking at my swords possibly having issues. In all seriousness, I love seeing these.
