This is a just for fun question, does anyone keep a duelling record? For example in one sparring match, you may tally up 6 hits to 4 (6-4), with a result of win or lose. I keep mine in a book and my current record is 17 wins to 2 losses across katana bokken and staff.

Only a mental note at that moment.

Well, generally speaking the purpose of sparring is to work on your skills and improve yourself rather than winning*. Usually when people get hung up up 'winning' every time they tend to hamstring their long term development. Doesn't mean that you have to be a kill joy and never fight to win, but rather than doing it every time you should set aside specific matches. (And make sure the other person knows what you are doing. I've also seen people who try and puff themselves up trying really hard to win when the other fighter was just doing a fun bout. ) *Not to be confused with the common 'try your best' cop out a lot of people use as an excuse for not working hard.

In the SCA, we have tournaments and some keep count. We have what we call a 'Tournament of Chivalry' which is a teaching and 'show your stuff' to the Knights. We usually have 3 areas in the tournament, 1. teaching, 2. training, 3 Crown list So teaching is obvious, training is usually 3 bouts and critique, ah...but the crown list, you get ONE fight then back in line. The Knight holds the field. So in that, I went 63-3. Was interesting...
