Ok, so like the title of this thread says, I've decided to customize/have customized a Simon Lee tamahagane katana. The following pics are from the page where I bought it (reproduced with permission by Mr. Lee of course); I haven't actually gotten it in the mail yet! The entire sword will have a Tiger/bamboo theme.
The saya was originally different, and I had Mr. Lee get a rayskin accented glossy black saya to replace it. It has buffalo horn Koiguchi, kurigata and kojiri. I had him replace the saya as that wasn't an element I wanted to change later. I wanted it finished going into the build! Except for the wine colored, imported from Japan syntheticnic silk sageo with which I'll be replacing the included one. Seen here:
I'll be sending the sword off to Cottontail Customs for a full same rewrap (dyed black of course) in Japanese golden brown silk. The menuki are fine silver and cast by Mr. Dan Davis of David Steelworks. They are "old bamboo."
The fuchi and kashira are blackened steel. I picked them up from Bugei. They have (you guessed it) depictions of tigers in bamboo on them!
might be a little hard to see...
I drew up something (which is being redrawn by a professional as we speak; I make bad art) for Mr. Charles Wu to use his engraving magic to bring to life. He's carving the following into copper (which I will later patina) to make my custom tsuba:
I can't resist adding water which brings me to...
The bag!
A custom job by Mr. Elliot Long's (of Shibui Swords fame) wife. It's an awesome katana bag. Told ya I can't resist throwing some water into my katana builds. Later, the sword will be sent to Josiah Boomershine for custom fine silver habaki and seppa and BOOM! assemble it all and customized katana.
More to come as the project moves along!!!
