Hey guys, I don't think that this is the right place to ask about knifemaking but I trust SBG the most, feel free to tell me where I should post it if this feels out of place. Anyway, I've started knifemaking some months ago and my first knife sucked of course. Although I am pretty much happy about how the blade turned out, the wooden handle looks like semprini so I was wondering if you guys could help me get such a finish (See joined photos). On the actual knife that I made I only used some wood stain and it didn't turn out well, I had to "polish" most of it off. Of course any advice is appreciated, concerning wood treatment or knifemaking in general ! Attachments:

Try truoil or tung oil, you will have to coat it several times using fine steel wool between each coat. Use a lint free 100% cotton to apply it.

I sand mine in sequence from 80, 220, 400, 600, then finally 1200 grit. I finish with Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil (as Fallen mentioned). I apply the oil with my fingertip, let it set for just one minute, then wipe it gently with a cosmetic wedge (yes, the kind for makeup). Let it sit for 24 hours, then check to see if it's tacky. If so, like Fallen said, gently buff it with 00 steel wool, or 1200 grit paper. I do a total of four coats in most cases, with these results:

There are several options. I use linseed oil (soaking overnight) and then after wiping off, I buff it with beeswax and a clean cloth (warm up the wood with a hair dryer). It is important to have the wood finely polished, I go up to 600 grit usually (you can do more but I wouldn't recommend less).
