Hello everyone, I'm sure you're wondering why I gathered you here. My name is Matt, I live in South Africa, I collect whatever I can, and am solo training in HEMA (the nearest club is 7 hours away). I've always loved weaponry. I started collecting knives when I was 13, and got my first SLO katana when I was 16. My first genuine sword was a British parade sword dating to around 1890. I like most swords, but sabres and longswords are my favourite. I went through a long phase of absolute katana adoration, but now I just want to own and train with everything. Happy to be here

Happy to be here Hi, and welcome to the forum. I'm also starting HEMA, currently solo training but hoping to change that soon... nearest club is much closer than 7 hours for me, luckily.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone, it's good to be part of a community like this. Elrikk: weapon laws are really quite lax at the moment, at least, as far as I know. There are no prohibited blade or cold weapons in our legal system; there are two switchblades and a balisong in my desk drawer at all times. Last I read, you can carry any blade shorter than 30cm, so long as it's not intended for use in a crime. Otherwise, we can freely own any sword or melee weapon we want. That is, if we can import it here. The local sword market is quite dry. Gun laws are a little different. There's a hard limit on how many guns one can own, and each is very strictly licensed. But, just about any type of gun can be legally owned, and open carry doesn't need a special permit.
