It's probably safe to say that most everybody on this forum has owned at least a few Windlass blades. Currently i own 9 - plus a couple daggers. What are your Top Three? Please include pics if you can. Here's my 3 favorites (in no particular order)... - Christus Imperat Rapier - Transitional Viking Sword - Oakeshott Type XIV Sword None are perfect - but all are great in their own way - and at that price point. A couple pics... Three Windlass 1 Three Windlass 2

I'll have to think about pics later, but my top three are:
Sword of Albrecht II
Arbedo Sword
3 way tie with Sword of the King from the awful Kingdom of Heaven movie/French Medieval Sword/and not sure what they called it...nice double fullered, steel guard, brass pommel sword based on a sword in Leeds I think.

Windlass Ulfberht Falchion Kindjal
The Kindjal is amazing once you remove the knobs.
I personally didn't care for the handling of Windlass XIV. I felt it was too heavy to wield easily for me. Felt a bit sluggish. Same with the Munich. Loved the look of it, but the guard was too heavy. With modification, these have potential to be amazing though

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Sword of Roven yet.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Sword of Roven yet. I would have already, but it's the only Windlass sword I have left, so I can't really say it's my favorite Windlass when it's my only Windlass... PS: I love my Sword of Roven!

I'm surprised the Sword of Homildon Hill has yet to be mentioned. Mine is one of my favorite swords. Handling is very close to the H/T Bastard sword.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Sword of Roven yet. I had one that had a great blade. Sold it and a few years later bought another on the DoTD. The latest one has a blade that is thicker than the first one.

My top 3
1. Blacksword, just very beautiful to me but scabbard sucks
2. Classic Hoplite sword, not historically accurate whatsoever but it's the only windlass I own that fits it's scabbard nicely and it feels good in my hand
3. Raptor sword, it's also very pretty to me and it actually handles ok

1. XIV
2. German Bastard Sword. At 4.2 lb. its weight would probably turn most people off, but to me that’s the selling point. It gives the impression that it will smash through about anything.
3. Pilsen Rapier. I would prefer more hand protection but the blade is quite stiff and I don’t think that I could get another Windlass rapier to top this blade.

I'm interested in some of those discontinued models as well - the Towton, the Arbedo. It's funny - i just received the Warbrand today. It's very cool - but could be better - which is Windlass in a nutshell. But then i remember that i paid less than $200 for it - and how can one complain. I'd love to see another maker - like a Valiant Armoury do a more refined, moderately more expensive version of this very unique sword.

Windlass is the bulk of my collection so this isn't easy because I really like all of them I own. Rather than a top three I'll list all of them I own and rate them and give my opinions on each.
1) Effigy Sword. It's been long discontinued but is a great cut and thruster. Light and we'll balanced with a rigid blade it's the best handling Windlass I own. The only con really is the soft brass hilt as it takes damage easy and has taken a beating over the 7 years I've owned rhe sword. Aesthetically I don't think the sword would look as good with steel fittings though and like the look of the brass.
2) European Sword. It's another that will soon be discontinued but it's a great early single hander with decent balance and great durability and cutting ability. The only real con to this sword is it is slightly hand heavy and I think the sword would benefit from a lower to the guard point of balance.
3) Type XIV Sword. A mean little cut and trust sword. It looks and feels like it could take on anyone with its broad but short blade profile. Extremely well balanced and a great cutter. The only cons this sword has is I feel the handle is a little too long at 4" and the guard is a little to thick and looks bulky compared to the rest of the sword. 4) Sword of Roven. Sadly discontinued this sword in my opinion at its time was the premier long sword sub $300. It's a great cut and thrust sword with decent balance and a rigid diamond profile. Love the triple fullers and the hilt. It's a very attractive sword for how simple it is. The only real con I have with the sword is I wish the handle was a bit longer. At 6" it begs to have an extra inch or so added to it as being a two handed sword it just feels too short for the POB and blade length. The pommel type does remedy this by adding an extra inch of grip but I'd still like to have an extra inch on the actual handle. 5) Sword of Homildon Hill. Overall this sword is amazing but due to the personal con I have with the sword (something I'll remedy this summer for sure ) it's not sitting in the #2 spot above the European. The sword is Extremely well balanced and is a great cutter. It's also just a very attractive sword and I live the darkened bronze hilt and fuller inscriptions. It's definitely #2 in regards to aesthetics and if I wasn't so bias to the Effigy it'd take the #1 spot for being the most attractive Windlass I own. On to the con I mentioned, my biggest issue with this sword is how wide the handle is at the base. It tapers well but overall I wish the base of the handle was equal to the lower tapered part. It's just uncomfortable for me to handle for long periods and as I mentioned in will eventually work the width down and make the handle even and to my preference. 6) Hero's Warsword. Last but definitely not least. I really wanted to put this sword higher as its not a bad sword, it's just kinda special in that it's so huge it's not as practical as the other swords. It's kinda like owning a bazooka in a collection of guns. It's bad ass and is pretty much over kill when used, but it's practicality is limited as its just not something you pack around and fire off at the shooting range if you catch my drift, lol. Overall for such a large sword this handles extremely well and is a very attractive sword (more so after my customization, stock it's a little goofy with the base cord wrap) That's very durable and pretty much cuts through anything you throw at it. Balance and weight are great and it cuts amazingly well once you get through he learning curve of using a great sword. The only real cons are it is really big and the blade does have some sag from the length and lack of distal taper. Then again when even though it's a 64" sword it handles faster and is significantly lighter than an Atlantean which in whole is nearly 2lbs heavier but only as long overall as 3/4 of this swords blade! To save space I'll post one pic of all the swords in line. From left to right, The European, Type XIV, Effigy, Homildon Hill, (ignore the H/T Bastard lol), The Roven and last The Hero's Warsword.
