You know, I kinda' think I might like an ostrich plume. I'm a really big guy and as a kid I had it drummed into me to wear muted colors so as not to stand out but now that I'm getting old enough to not care I like brightly colored stuff.

I know a canadian man who wears a huge feathered hat. Landskecht style.

... aaand Poul Anderson. (Big Fan) "Leonora Christine spent most of a year getting within 1 percent of light velocity. The time aboard was about the same, because the value of tau only began to drop sharply when she was quite near c. During that initial period, she covered half a light-year of space, approximately five trillion kilometers. Thereafter the decrease became constantly more swift. Aided by the higher acceleration now possible, she required somewhat under 2 more years, in her own measure, to get about ten light-years from Earth. That was where she met her grief."

With such a hat the only thing you have to fear is a ceiling fan. (That's not me, only the best hat picture I found)

Gandermail, in your OP you mentioned SCA swordplay. I looked up in wikipedia: "SCA armoured combat", interesting thing. (I hope I didn't derail the funny hat thread)

The time dilatation part of the theory of relativity always causes me a headache (what's if you fly back home?). The same with time paradox (I was told to write this exactly ... now). I liked Poul Andersons historic/fantasy novells.

many other writers are or have been members, Robert lynn Aspirin [sp] was known as yang the nauseating.
I met Robert Asprin in New Orleans the year before he passed (in town for a scientific conference / trade show). He was a regular at Fahy's Irish Pub. He was sitting next to me at the bar and introduced himself as "Bob". It was good conversation and I ran into him the next evening and we continued the previous night's conversation. Some point that night or the next, the topic turned to art and I mentioned something from conversations with Phil and Kaja Foglio. That's when I got the proper introduction (since he knew Phil & Kaja quite well).
I had never read his books, so on the way home from the airport, I stopped at Borders and bought the 2-volume Myth Adventures compilations. I figured if his writing was half as good as the conversation I would be well entertained.
I haven't been back to New Orleans since then, but I know that next time I am there, I will head to Fahy's for a Tully's on the rocks (with a side of ice water) and drink a toast to "Bob".
