cutlass machete from cold steel
It's actually technically a machete, pretty wide blade, SUPER sharp, a kinda steep bevel that will cut better than a lot of swords... all their machetes are like this actually.
26 oz or 1.625 pounds POB 6-7* inch from handle 1055 carbon steel 24 inches long
Your hand will tend to slide around on the handle a bit, but there's no chance of it flying out of your hand as long as you're still gripping because of the D guard.

You have a wide price range of things that are at least decent...to things that are pretty damn good. Love him or hate him, Mr. Thomson sure seems to be a kid at heart, and talk about a dream job.

Hope ppl don't mind me playing the role of necromancer & bumping this thread.
I cannot source a cutlass machete easily in the UK & as we have to pay taxes etc they tend to be around £35-£40 for most cs machetes.
Best I can get for the cutlass machete seems to be £50 ish from Germany.
Is this one of those cheap hidden gems (looking at you windlass qama) that is worth £50 or for that price should I leave it alone....
bear in mind i already own a hanwei banshee, 1860 us naval cutlass by windlass (really like) & a cs 1917 cutlass.
It was the full tang & metal guard that made me really want one.

The real question is: Is only one cutlass machete enough?

"Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately, we will not be getting the Cutlass machete in with us, along with the Tactical katana, Chinese war sword and Thai machetes, as these fall under the UK’s curved sword ban, where it is illegal to sell import or hire any curved blade over 50cm from the hand guard that has not been made in the traditional manner. As these machetes are based on swords and have not been handmade, we are unable to bring these in to the UK."
Damn it emailed cold steel uk!
Glad I didn't order from Germany now.
If it was cheaper I would just risk it & see if it got through customs....

The Cutlass Machete is exceedingly tough, powerful and very nice to handle. I had other short sabres and cutlasses, also some antiques, but the Cutlass Machete remains my favorite curved blade. But... I’ve never handled the Windlass 1860 (had my eyes on it for years), and it must be a – very – nice piece. That really is some praise. Looking at your Avatar I am sure I have read some post by you on I think blade forums regarding this weapon? I intend to test the cutlass 1860 on tatami soon will be posting vids in the cutting section. It really does handle well & it a reasonable replica . www.thepirateslair.com/9-m1860-naval-cutlass.htmlHas more rivets than the antique in the handguard & its scabbard is incorrect. Also I feel the grip isn't as nicely done & the wire isn't as tightly woven but for the price....... sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/35045/good-production-replica-cutlass-existIt's specs aren't to far off an original it seems in terms of weight etc
