Yes they dramatically improved their sharpening. It will still have that secondary bevel but since the grind is so even, there's really not much need to blend it in.

Did you order it earlier this month when it went up? Because if so I'm jealous, mine still hasn't even shipped out yet according to their website. I guess it's a Canada thing? I rarely order from MRL so I can't remember how long it normally takes.

I ordered a couple things a week ago - and still haven't gotten any shipping notification either. Maybe they got overloaded with their Valentines sale
As for the original post - it's MRL that does the sharpening - not Windlass. All the blades leave India unsharpened if i'm not mistaken.
Either way - i'm glad you're psyched about it! I've had some decent sharpening jobs from MRL and a couple less-than-decent ones as well.

I have a scar on my heel from a Windlass sharpened sabre. NEVER wear a sword thrust through your belt loop, when it has a blade longer than your legs.

I rarely order from MRL so I can't remember how long it normally takes. I just discovered that both items i ordered are on backorder! Though i am certain that there was no indication of this at the time i placed the order. Apologies for getting off-topic a bit here... but it baffles me - from a user experience perspective - how a customer can complete an order for 2 items and not at any point be alerted to the fact that the items are not in stock. I've had this experience with Atlanta Cutlery before as well. Not too thrilled. Rant over - now back to your regularly scheduled thread....

They must be going downhill or shorthanded. I once ordered something that turned out to not be in stock. They contacted me the next day and offered a refund or substitute.
As far as sharpening, I've only gotten two things sharpened by them and both came out fairly good. I've learned to do better since then but haven't needed to touch up their edges for any reason.

got my blacksword, very nicely sharpened, clean even bevels, i've also noticed that the bevel is much smaller then older windlass offerings

How would you folks compare Kult of Athena's sharpening service with the Windlass/MRL/Atlanta Cutlery sharpening service?

I can't speak far in the past, or for MRL, but in the last few months, I've had two experiences with KoA's sharpening service. Both of them were extremely positive. I received a compliment on the edge of one of the blades from someone far more experienced in swords than I - too bad I couldn't claim it myself - still practicing.
