Hi folks, does anyone here know how to take apart the Hanwei Practical Tai Chi sword? I just bought it for the blade, since the blade was exactly what I was looking for. Mostly unsharpened, stiff enough, tempered high carbon steel (I think 5160, if I'm right and lucky), and good to practice forms with.
My main issue is taking apart the damn thing. I heard that that's difficult to do. How do you take it apart?
I've made my own sword before, a bronze Kopesh, so I'll just cast an entirely new guard and pommel. I also do woodwork as a hobby, so I'm thinking black stained maple hand grip. The inspiration will be Ned Stark's Ice. Ice is really simple and straightforward, so I'm going for that aesthetic, but with a Chinese style interpretation.
The sheath will also be stained black wood. I've made a cherry sheath before for my main chef's knife.
It could work out!

This piece took me an hour to make. Requires so much precision. And I have so little experience! Hope it works!

Apologies for reviving an old thread, and for what will no doubt be a rookie question.
I also have a Hanwei tai chi sword, and I also have a nice piece of oak to make into a custom grip. However, I'm stuck with unscrewing the nut to dismantle the weapon. It is very tight, plus the fact that it's mounted within the arch-shaped pommel makes access tricky.
Any tips? Or were there any specific tools which worked well for you?
