great now i got it on my ebay search history forever -_- You should pull a typical Stormmaster and flip it! Become a millionaire over night. I find it astounding that someone can both have the personal drive and motivation to put up that page and try and scam people, yet be so stupid as to put that price on it. Maybe they meant 750,000 rupees?

that's pretty cool I had not heard of mourning swords before A gentleman's bit of finery with a light hilt. This one with a decent weight smallsword blade and tattered scabbard (which are almost always absent)

I'll also reiterate that the seller to be a class act. Although I had only one buy from him some years ago, he is one of the collectors and networkers from long before the internet. The item I bought from him had actually been his twice himself and not because of a return. The gauche he has up looks really nice too, though I don't know the level of durability regarding replicas from the estimated period.

It can be hard to judge some of the Victorian and later "antiques". I suppose it depends on what one expects for use. Even the very fine Ernst Schimdt stuff was to be more of a decorative item, while likely as solid as a period piece. myarmoury.com/feature_schmidt.htmlIt certainly seems to exhibit finer detail than the real cast iron castle decorations. Keep in mind that it is a small item and diminutive in scale. Personally the globe pommel smallsword with a XVIIth century blade is more bang for the buck. He is Thomas Crain and from exchanges of missives, seems a great guy and on eBay forever. We bargained on a piece he had sold to one of the authors (Leonard Garigliano) and then ended up buying it back, only to surface years later. Funny story, a piece I had followed the sword in both listings a decade apart. He is the real deal. As his stuff surfaces, the swords are being listed at decent prices. That globe pommel smallsword hilt is likely actually French but early first quarter 18th century. A steal if it doesn't get bid up. I'm still paying off stuff from the holidays.

The real question is, if you do have 137k to drop on an antique sword, are you really gonna do your shopping on ebay?

The real question is, if you do have 137k to drop on an antique sword, are you really gonna do your shopping on ebay? Of course. That's the most glaring reason why it's fraudulent. I see stuff like this pop up all the time on eBay. If reasonable people ran that site, any asking price over about $10,000.00 US would flag it for immediate administrative review. Edit: For what it's worth, I reported it as a suspected fraudulent listing.

What I don't get is why they can't just post it for an amount like $2k.. if they are scammers, wouldn't you think their business model would be a bit more realistic? It blows my mind. Maybe it's just a troll who does it for the laughs, knowing that no one will buy it but people will face palm over it..

The Custer sword has been listed for years. Maybe no one has offered them more than $10. That is something often overlooked. Sure, they would love to sell at the buy it now price but one day the listing will be gone and sold for whatever the seller agrees to.
This is one of the most convoluted mini docu novel listing one might encountered on the bay, so I have always gotten a chuckle out of it while appreciating the story telling effort.
Put in an offer for what the sword is worth to you without bothering with the story (which one should always consider anyway).

BTW, there is nothing really fraudulent about the listing because it is a best offer listing, is an old sword posted in the appropriate section and the description does contain an all encompassing disclaimer in welcoming information. It is just a chuckle and move on situation. That is unless one wants to buy a really rusty and beat up 1796 lc and put in a subjectively reasonable offer. You guys should hang out in the WWII knife section listings

Another of these sibling light pallasch. This one identical to mine with the old WH Horstmann New York markings. www.ebay.com/itm/W-H-Horstmann-Co-Militia-Officers-Sword-circa-1837-1847/173820682390?Pricy at the posted starting price but it is also a make an offer opportunity. Mine was less but the grip on this new listing appears 100%. The blade would clean up. No scabbard though. Something else recent to eBay is that the sellers know who is watching and you may receive an unsolicited offer. Two of these this past month and reasonable offers but not what I am spending on these days. Your eBay reputation may well attract the best offers and counter offers. Many of my purchases have been offer and counter offer bargaining. Sometimes just asking what their best price is. Remember that it costs sellers to list on eBay, so keep that in mind.
