Hello
I've recently experienced a growth in my Swedish military sabre collection and I'm looking for some reference material. There are books aplenty for British, French, German, American, &tc, but I can't seem to find anything for Sweden. I'm wondering if any more knowledgeable forumites could recommend any good sources/reading material regarding scandinavian swords.
Many Thanks

My pleasure. Be warned though. Once you start with those Swedish brutes you will want them all. The best steel, the best workmanship, the biggest, the most brutal. And so on.....
Cheers.

Dave, you're an inspiration for us all. I recently acquired a M1831 Swedish Mounted Artillery sword... one which I believe... is NOT in Dave Kelly's collection!

Ok bottom to top on the lower pic.. somehow m/1851 änterhuggare "kolskopan" (coal shovel) boarding cutlass m/1848 faskinkniv m/1825 cavalry m/1854 cavalry (note the grip wire) I think they replaced it 1n 1864 due to the small (ish) grip m/1864 cavalry m/1867 cavalry m/1897 cavalry m/1899 artillery troopers sword (i have no idea why they equipped artillery troops with a sword in 1899) sorry the pics are crappy but if anyone wants more detail of a specific sword ill try a bit harder

Very nice collection. Sorry to read your sabre was stolen. I like that M1899 Artillery troopers sword too. That one has a mean looking blade. Do you have some links to the net auctions? I have tried to find auctions in Sweden but no luck thus far. Also I would like to know whether the buff leather Swedish sword knots are still made and where to get them? An Army surplus dealer or something? I have two, but I need some more.
Cheers.

Was an m/1899 in a week ago at this link, same place I buy most my swords: auctionet.com/sv/search/130-kniv-dolk-svard-bajonett?order=recentHave seen the leather sword knots on tradera, was one in recently: www.tradera.com/item/292217/265540761/portep%C3%A9-m-1893-mannskap. Search for portepé At tradera use these (swedish) search words: svärd, sabel, värja, huggare, bajonett, (sword, sabre, rapier, cutlass, bayonet) Another upcoming (nov 15th) auction: www.probusauktioner.se/ cheers

Haha.. They are, well sort of awsome, I have a couple of German and British cavalry swords, there dwarf(ish) in comparison. As someone mentioned in a thread i saw here cavalry soldiers must for sure have been the biggest and strongest farm lads they could find. Found myself a "new" m/1831 artillery sabre so by next weekend it will be here. Will post pics..
