Hey Redmichael, It's me Fatebinder on Modern Sword tactics Forums
I'll be doing a write up or two soon on my conclusions about Japanese bladed weapons in the role of modern tactical swords
Stay tuned!
Anyway - Yeah I purchased that Honshu around 4 years ago at the time I just wanted something to abuse, I wanted to get the Hanwei version but they didn't really have any... Long story short I had other obligations in life, and didn't end up doing much with the sword till recently.
I will never buy another UC or Honshu blade again.
Yuck.
Learned my lesson.
As for Cold Steel, I HATE their designs and almost total lack of consideration for ergonomics and balance, however, I CANNOT deny they make some cool concepts and rugged beater tools and weapons.
I prefer Condor and CRKT however in nearly every way, despite having less eccentric offerings, I find both these other companies do a much better job of QC, their price point is the same or 25% higher, the ergos are great, and they are every bit as durable but less mod friendly.
In my mind, Cold steel is the tinkers maker, they create blank weapons that someone can customize into something that belongs only to them.
I tell a lot of people looking to learn basic mod methods (blade reshaping, engraving, patina patterning etc), get a cheap Cold steel and go nuts.
Anyway, see you on the Tactical forums!
