Ronin Katana Showcase: "Anime Katanas" (Discontinued Series)
Sword collectors and anime fans - to the great surprise of absolutely no one, there is a lot of overlap between these two groups. Many anime and manga feature katanas prominently in their art and stories, so it's no wonder that so many fans of anime wind up acquiring a few of their own. Unfortunately, many of the weapons in anime look pretty "fantastical," with outrageous colours or designs that don't show up very frequently in the production katana world. These fans wind up shelling out lots of money for stainless steel knock off katanas that look colourful and fancy, but aren't even remotely functional...
So, in 2013 Ronin Katana put out a line of katanas in a short-lived, blink-and-you'd-miss-it "Anime Katana" series - battle-ready, fully functional katanas with vibrant colours and designs. These swords would look just as exciting as the weapons from anime and manga yet actually be safe to use for cutting. Made of through-hardened 1045 steel, the Anime Katana line only lasted until 2014 before the last ones were sold and no more were made. Before they disappeared for good, a friend of mine and I managed to get our hands on a couple - so I decided to do a photoshoot and showcase the swords for you here. Enjoy!

As you can see, we picked a red-themed and a yellow-themed sword.

The rayskin has been dyed as well, definitely the brightest colours of rayskin I've seen before.

Side by side the two swords look quite "sharp," ah ha ha I'm so sorry.

Here's a few closeups of the red one, which was originally sold (I believe) as the "Red Phoenix" katana.

And a few of the yellow one, which was sold as the "ōsuzumebachi" katana (named for the Japanese giant hornet).

I don't know if we will ever bring back this line (though I'd certainly advocate for it), but I hope you enjoyed looking at it all the same. Thanks for checking this out! Please feel free to leave comments and/or requests for another run of "fancy" katanas!
