What the heck is that, anyway? Some sort of full metal SCA sort of thing? The fighters and a lot of the crowd have obviously put a lot of effort into dressing up somewhat historically, but the "swordplay" is straight out of a bad movie rather than anything even remotely resembling real fencing...

It’s good that the dude likes short hair because after that he would be wearing it short regardless.

Agree with you, but many ppl enjoy things like that, like the UWM tournament and other matches where swords were not treated as swords, but clubs. Those were not swordsmanship, if you ask me.

The video information says it's from Ukraine, but I know several groups in the US that do armored, steel-on-steel combat but do not require learning historical fencing techniques to participate. I've met people from the local Adrian Empire kingdom who practice German longsword, but not everyone who does armored combat in the group practices HEMA.

Yikes! That could have gotten very, very ugly. On a sword injury note, anyone see this one?
(warning, this footage contains scenes of explicit violence and gore)

Ya, looks like the one posted in “Beginners Forum” under “Backyard Cutting”. Haha you even posted the exact video. Looks like the slowest turtle (me) just crossed the finish line.

It's a perfectly accurate recreation of what happens to swords when you swing them hard into plate harness.

I'm very appreciative of the post "The Best Samurai Sword Accident, ever." It take a great deal of humility to post such a thing, something which is sadly missing from the vast majority of so-called "martial artists" today. While the person in the video erred badly, he shows a great deal of good moral character by posting this as a warning/lesson to the rest of us. Frankly, it scared the pee out of me. As a rank beginner I will now be even more careful (i.e. "paranoid") when playing with my sharp weapons.
