So I have seen a few threads about asking about functional Master Swords from The Legend of Zelda. As many of you know Brendan Olszowy has made a couple. I had him make the first one based on our collaborative design. What many don't know is that I tracked down the owner of the 2nd, and managed to procure it as well. So... I thought I would just leave this here... A "pair of masters". Forgive the crappy photo. I'll get better pictures of my overall collection later. Man, I love Brenno's work...

Absolutely beautiful swords. I am extremely jealous. That is great for you though.

So is yours the more traditional looking one or the tapered one? How do they comparatively handle? Pretty cool you now own both.

I designed the one with the greater taper. I find that one handles better than the one that came after mine but both handle pretty well. I think for the 2nd had a bit shorter of a grip as it functions a bit less ideal as a true bastard sword as the one I was part of the design of.

The universe seems out of balance with two master swords in existence. There can only be one!
Did I mention before how jealous I am of you for having a pair of stunning master swords?

Don't get the Timeline theorists in here! Much like on IGN, the thread will be 7 pages long of 50 20 paragraph theories!!

You must be a hell of a sweet talker to get someone to give up a fableblade master sword! ;)

But just in case there is a universal balancing concern I am willing to take one of the master swords and you will just have to trust me that I will dispose of it properly.

Haha. You guys are too funny. I felt the same. I refused to allow another to possess one! Unfortunately if Brendan keeps making them I cannot continue the path of merciless acquisition. I will have to be content with the first two ever made. ;)
At least my shield will be one of a kind (I'm making that myself from steel and brass).
Seriously though, I do find it interesting to compare and contrast them. While the second is "closer to canon" the sword does not feel as alive in the hand as does the one I helped design. I'm VERY particular when it comes to swords' agility and how that relates to its power. My unmatched sword is an Atrim XIIa.4, with my original Fable Blades master sword as #2, followed by a Christian Fletcher Winter Warden and then a Valiant Armoury Malatesta. The second master sword would come somewhere after all of those in terms of handling.
Now to be fair, that is a really high bar and upper eschelon of handling for swords. :D I am blessed with some awesome blades.

As to how I sweet-talked the previous owner... I found him pretty much immediately after his sword was made, then struck up a rapport as the other Fable Master Sword owner. I offered should he ever sell it I would buy it and would love to have first dibs. That it would be cool to see both together...
Well fast forward a year and a half or so... He gave me first right of refusal given our previous bargain and I jumped. And so it was mine. :)

I am blessed with some awesome blades. I can definitely understand why you would jealously want to possess both master swords. Aesthetically I find them to be very impressive and the extra points for childhood nostalgia combined really drive my desire to possess one myself. Way before you posted here I saw the pictures from Fable Blades and scoured the internet for similar master sword reproductions. I found a few other functional master swords but none with quiet the aesthetic appeal of the Fable Blades version. If they were to commission a properly heat treated master sword in cpm-3v steel I would probably go to unholy lengths to obtain it. I would probably never cut anything with the blade but would obsessively just want to possess one for the sake of possessing one. I know this is a symptom of insanity but there are definitely a few people who can relate to the illogical desire to possess something just to say you have it. That is at least what I tell myself, out loud and in public, to feel better. Anyway, If you are having Fable Blades commission a Hylian Shield as well then you are seriously going to make me green with envy. At any rate, if you should come into possession of a Hylian shield you have to post the pictures on the forum. I am sure other people would appreciate some sword/weapon porn to droll over. If my four letter word is offensive then I apologize. I meant "adult oriented sword imagery" for everyone to droll over. If you happen to have fulfilled anymore of my childhood dreams be sure to let me know.

Hehe, Brenno emailed me and offered it... Fi actually is the 4th. There is a 3rd that was commissioned and very similar to the 2nd one made. The full set of all of them he has made is here: www.fableblades.com/MasterSwords.htmlI own two of the 4.
