As mainly an Asian sword collector, I always wanted an authentic and functional gladius. However, as a Canadian, my options are limited. KOA and MRL not only charges me $80 CDN for shipping, I also have to pay import tax for their goods. Relik seems like the only Canadian vendor that offers functional gladius, and the windlass is the only brand they carry. Maintz gladius is what I really dig, however the windlass Maintz gladius uses synthetics for its handle, which looks very unappealing to me. That leaves their Centurion Gladius as my last option: www.reliks.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=5785I really like the aethetics of this gladius, but I'm not sure if the blade geometry is historical. It would be great if fellow forum members can offer me some opionions on this piece VS. the Maintz Gladius. Thank you very much!

Not 100% on the historical accuracy of the blade profile as Roman Era isn't my interest point but I have always liked that model from Windlass and feel its the best looking sub-$300 Gladius on the market. Handle looks comfortable, P.o.B weight and blade length look good for a sword of its size. Aesthetically it is the best looking too. Love the scabbard and bronze hilt, also love the wood handle over the bone or fake bone.

The centurion is more histotically accurate - the mainz has a triangular ricasso which really isn't supposed to be there. Also, the plate on the mainz is supposed to be inset not on top of the guard.
Although the hilt design on the centurion isn't seen often I believe it's based on an actual piece. I would call the blade shape more fulham rather than mainz.
The centurion is their nicest gladius imho. Get it and tell me all about it because I want it too

Thanks for the input guys! I just ordered it. However it's currently out of stock... Vendor informed me that it will take approximately 6 weeks to restock and ship the sword

To me it looks to be exactly what it is. A replica from "The Eagle" I'm sure it's sound enough and pretty. The pommel and guard feel hollow to me and strikes as what it is. If you really want it tho I'd let you have it for shipping. I weeding out my collection for highler end swords.
