I was cruising around on aliexpress and found something interesting. s.aliexpress.com/yMRZBb22 Tell me what you guys think, its a bit crude but it might be a bit of fun. I think its spring steel and the photos in the description don't look too bad in regards to the tang. Not even sure if this is in the right section but I figured if it's black it has to be tactical????

looks like a 155$ machete. maybe for 50 or 60$ but not 155$ your right about it being crude lol.

I sent the vendor a message about blade thickness and he claims 0.9mm thickness so maybe not a machete blade

...0.9mm thick? Is it a razor blade? My thinnest knife is 1.5mm and it's a small, folding filet knife. It bends, a lot.
Now, 0.9cm would be pretty beefy. I'd wager the "average" sword is 7mm thick, maybe 8mm, at least at the guard. My thickest is about a half-inch, which would be around 1.3-1.5cm. Mind you, that's a kukri.

Should work, assuming it isn't too heavy or ill balanced.

Yeah, most swords seems to cluster around 6-8mm in thickness at the shoulders. 9mm can be quite reasonable. What I'd want to know is what kind of distal taper it has, if any.
But yeah, I wouldn't consider those for more than a third of the asking price. They look really rough and clumsy and the proportions are all out of whack.

It says cast iron in the description, though. Not very encouraging.

Which is kind of sad, because I even like the rough look. But nothing in that description inspires my confidence.

When I contacted the vendor he did say the blade was spring steel. I think like most problems he's using google translate which doesn't help sometimes.

I would trust him if he could tell me what type of spring steel and the approximate hardness after temper. Those two things seem conspicuously absent in a lot of really inexpensive swords.
Edit: but yeah, that tang sure looked sturdy.

The listing says 60sicr for steel type, which is an incomplete designation. Should be something like 60SiCr8 or similar. But more or less 9260, 0.6% carbon and 2% silicon.
