Welcome to the Ronin Katana Giveaway for the week of February 29 - March 5, 2016!
Do you know how a calendar works? Because apparently I don't; I announced that the February silk sword bag giveaways were done last Monday. But it's still February! And just like the last several Mondays, we will be giving away a silk sword bag.
In order to participate, simply reply to this thread with an answer to the Contest Question and your name will be entered into the draw. On Saturday, March 5 the winner will be announced after their name is picked using a random number generator.
As mentioned above, the prize will be a Ronin Katana silk sword bag shipped for free to your home.
The Contest Question for this week is: Who is your favourite fantasy author, and what series of theirs do you enjoy the most? Are you a Robert Jordan fan? Do you enjoy the works of Robin Hobb? Are you like me - a shameless Brandon Sanderson groupie? Or is there a copy of Twilight hidden under a pile of linens in your closet? Share it with us and try your luck at winning.
(We won't judge you if you read Twilight... much.)
"The most important thing for a soldier to have is not strength, but a fear of battle. When you fear battle, you are able to take up your sword for others who are also afraid. He who does not fear his own sword is not worthy to hold it… if you truly fear battle with all your heart, then as a soldier, you already have something irreplaceable." - Tōsen Kaname
Timothy Powers. I especially like The Drawing Of The Dark for his use of language from period fencing manuals, the main character's easy familiarity with technique, and the not too overdone discussion of swordplay taking into account the changing notions of the time (1529, siege of Vienna).

Strangely enough, there's not a particular fantasy author that I can name as my favorite. I like J. R. R. Tolkien and Robert E. Howard, and I recently read The Once and Future King by T. H. White. It was a strange book - I absolutely loved half of it, and absolutely hated the other half.
They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night. - Edgar Allan Poe He can willingly plunge into the cold darkness, knowing full well he has the power to create his own light, from the brightness he carries in his heart. - Masaaki Hatsumi, Soke
Miles (Christian) Cameron, "Traitor Son Cycle". Christian has been a long time reenactor and historical swordsman and has a realistic and gritty element to his books lacking from other great writers of the genre. I highly recommend!
Drunk Merchant: Review won’t be up for a week but suffice to say I am VERY impressed with the blade quality, polish and balance. I’ve never seen a production blade of this level. Certainly not at this price.

nerdthenord: thanks for the info

carbon: But---my advice is likely worth exactly what you paid for it.

carbon: 800-919-7923 That's the number for Tucker holsters. You'll be talking with Rob Longnecker. He can probably set you up with something that works well for you. He knows his stuff.

nerdthenord: LOL i already do. Too many crappy ones in different colors for airsoft

carbon: If you're like the rest of us, you'll wind up with a drawer full of holsters you never use lol.

nerdthenord: I was looking at a Safariland OWB holster low ride with adjustable cant. I despise thigh holsters with a passion, and don't like my holsters sitting too high either. I'm five five so fitting can be tricky.

carbon: I can understand how.

nerdthenord: I play airsoft when the weather permits, and enjoy shooting real guns at the range when I can. Warhammer 40k has taken the bulk of my time and money as a hobby since April 2020, though.

carbon: There are several out there. I would try to recommend a few, but holsters are like sneakers, a very personal choice. Take a look at Tucker Gunleather if you have the time to wait. $$$ but great stuff.

nerdthenord: I've found I really don't care for plate carriers, and prefer lightweight chest rigs. I got burnt out of medieval stuff after getting a high end custom sword. Can't easily top that.
Aug 2, 2022 17:07:33 GMT
carbon: Shooting is my primary hobby. I try to make it to the range at least 2-3 of times a month, which is one of the reasons I haven't had much time or $$$ for swords lately.

nerdthenord: Thanks! My kit is just about complete, just need a good quality hard shell Glock 19 holster to replace my nylon airsoft holster for real steel use.
